‪"Little Kyoto"‬

‪If you want to escape from the hustle and bustle of crowded tourist sites, you should go to Kitsuki Castle Town. There are some old houses where Samurai used to live, so called Buke-Yashiki. I could relax and enjoy beautiful autumn foliage.

‪Stopped at Kitsuki Castle Town to dress up in kimono and stroll through the quiet old castle town. Wonder for taking photos in traditional Japanese costumes. Went into Japanese samurai homes and took more photos. Must visit and do. ‬

‪One of the most well preserved samurai residence area well worth visiting‬
מאי 2017 • זוגות
‪Kitsuki is also regarded as a little Kyoto and is famous for its unique sandwich style township. The old township is composed of two hilltops running side by side where the samurai residences stood and a lower row of merchant shops sandwiched by the two hills. We parked our car in a car park on the southern side hill and toured the township. The samurai residences on the opposite hill have been particularly well preserved. If you are interested in Ooita Prefecture, please browse the article on my trip on my homepage Rediscovering Japan (Ooita).‬

‪Laotian in Yukata experience‬
פבר׳ 2017 • חברים
‪I planed to go to Kitsuki for a week, then I went there with my friends in order to touch with kimono and yukata. Because I am studying in Japan I love Japan. I went there by local train from Beppu station to Kitsuki station which took time around 30 minutes, but we were mistake due to we took a wrong line of train. We have to wait at Beppu daigaku station for awhile then arrive there at 12:30pm (460¥). After that we took local bus from Kitsuki station to Kitsuki bus terminal (290¥). After that walk around the city to find Warakuan shop.. we was enjoying with Japanese dressing and taking photo. Our target was kitsuki castle where used to be samurai resident. If you want to visit there please look at kitsuki tourism website first to make a reservation.‬

‪Get off at "Kitsuki Shiyakusho" (杵築市役所) bus stop for kimono rental!‬
אפר׳ 2016 • חברים
‪If you want to rent the kimono, take the bus to Kitsuki Bus Terminal (杵築バスターミナル) and get off at Kitsuki Shiyakusho (杵築市役所) bus stop. The shop is called Warakuan (和楽庵) and it is recommended that you reserve beforehand. The experience was priceless!‬

‪Great traditional Japanese experience‬
ספט׳ 2015 • זוגות
‪Came here for the kimono rental and it was a great experience! We did a couple rental and there was a small discount. You have to email them to reserve a slot beforehand.

The ladies dressing us were very helpful and dressed us up beautifully! When you dress in kimono, you get to enter some of the attractions (e.g samurai houses) for free and also get discounts at some of the cafes!

We left the rental shop at the time the elementary kids were ending school so there were some really cute kids who greeted us as we walked towards the samurai houses. We also overheard a few of them discussing if we are Japanese.

The walk to the castle is quite tiring when you are dressed in the kimono but it was nice walking through the streets that were maintained its ancient charm.

The cafe in one of the samurai houses served nice matcha with mochi which we enjoyed :)

Generally a small quaint town that's good for a day trip from beppu. The kimono experience is great and I recommend trying it!‬

‪Friendliest place in Japan‬
מרץ 2015 • לבד
‪I visited Kitsuki on a daytrip from Fukuoka in March 2015.
Kitsuki is dead easy to get to, with trains leaving from Fukuoka (Hakata Station), trip taking less than an hour. Kitsuki Station is a bit out from the town itself and once you get off the train there is a bus which takes you to the town or you can take a taxi (costing approx 1500yen). From the moment I got off the train it was apparent that this was truly a unique place, everyone was friendly and interested in helping, from the bus driver who despite not speaking English, produced a map of the town and personally got up at my stop to ensure I knew to get off and showed me where the tourist information was. Or the old ladies on the street who took me inside their local tea shop to show me the excellent green tea, or maybe the taxi driver who on my way back to the train station gave me a little sightseeing tour of his own. The town itself was lovely and very easy to navigate and the area around Kitsuki Castle was very pretty, as well as the samurai houses being very well preserved. Best thing was that there were no crowds at all and it felt like I had the whole town to myself at times. If you fancy a daytrip somewhere to see old Japan but hate crowds, come to Kitsuki and be amazed.‬

‪Now I've done the kimono dress up!‬
אפר׳ 2015 • משפחה
‪My family recently visited and we spent some time in Kitsuki to wear kimono and explore the town together. We had a BLAST! The samurai residences are really lovely. I wish the famous mikan (tangerine) ice cream store would have been open...‬
