‪Santo Domingo de Silos is a very known Benedictin Abbey located in Burgos Province, in Castilla y León Region, in the center of Spain. At the beginning, it was built in the 7tn Century, but it was damaged by Muslims until 10th Century, when monks come here again, and the building was done in a Romanesque-style. In the 18th Century, the Abbey was enlarged in a Baroque-style. Nowadays, it is possible to vist some of the inner rooms of the abbey, the cloister (the best part of the complex) and the main church. Also, it is possible to see some objects related with old pharmacies. Very interesting place. Near the entrance, you can see a tree of Silos, a very big and old tree, which, is very nice.

‪Whilst most will visit to marvel at the architecture and hear the monks chant at prayer, the most powerful experience to be had at Silos is to step outside the noise and distraction of modern life and embrace a silent journey, retreating and discerning who you are and what you would be. The monks follow the Rule of Saint Benedict and to be welcomed into their community is an experience that I will forever cherish and never forget.‬

‪Exquisite double tiered cloisters. Entry times are displayed at the door and you will be take round in a group with a Spanish speaking guide pointing out the intricate stone carvings. Also an old pharmacy and museum of religious artefacts. A very helpful leaflet in English, and a gift shop with very reasonable prices.‬

‪We were staying in Covadonga in the Picos de Europa mountains and had an afternoon to "kill". We drove cc 120 kilometers round trip to this monastery hoping to hear the monks sing the gregorian chants. Unfortunately they were not singing that day. We visited the place. Nice museum, great cloister, so-so church. Town around was very nice though.‬

‪This is a must-see monastery. Guided tour is obligatory and very good, you may get one from one of monks himself. We can also recommend the church service, with Gregorian singing.‬

‪Located at the crossroads of El Cid itinerary this Romanesque place with its famous and well preserved cloister build in stages, separated by centuries, is a must for anybody interested in Romanesque architecture. The tour provided is excellent and with well informed guides. It is worth staying for any of the services of the monks. They are open to the public and their famous Gregorian chants, in their real environment, mesmerizing. For not so early raisers the vespers (7 p.m) may be the most comfortable service culminating with the parade of the monks to the tomb to the St. Domingo withing the church‬

‪This is an amazing monastery. The cloisters are fantastic. The monks regularly do the Gregorian Chant and you have to be there to appreciate it. We stayed at a lovely little hotel in the middle of the village directly opposite the Monastery.‬

‪On the morning we went there were 18 monks singing Gregorian chants. Worth the trip. Magical! Pay attention to the "locals" in attendance for cues on when to stand or sit. ‬

‪Fantastic monastery in the small village of Santo Domingo de Silos.
You can visit the adjacent church for free. In itself doesn´t offer much, but you have the opportunity to attend the mass with the monks singing gregorian chants, platinum discs winners.
As for the monastery, with a 3.5€ entrance, you have a guided visit to the courtyard and pharmacy. The explanations are very good, although I am not sure of the languages available. You get a much better understanding of the images in the columns, and you can also see the tomb of the saint. The pharmacy is ok, but not as visually powerful as the exterior. The garden is also beautiful, with a remarkable and popular cypress, and for the first floor, is out of the visit as it keeps the living quarters of the residents.‬
