‪What a wonderful experience for me. Many floors of well documented exhibits with exquisite art pieces. As an Italian learner I would have benefited from more English documentation and it would best showcase the incredible collection to a broad collection of tourists. Appreciated that the collection is housed in a such a beautiful Palazzo and the breadth of the collection is outstanding. It would be difficult to fully appreciate the extent of history and the value of the art without advanced research for a non-Italian speaker. I sought help twice from staff on the various floors and they were kind and very helpful(the front desk less so). This museum is a real treasure for Italy. Ohh those winged horses!‬

‪Situated in the beautiful Palace of the Cardinal, this museum shows all important pieces found in the Etruskan tombs of the Necropolis close by - which you should visit as well (buy a combined ticket). Jewelry, old coins, weapons, texts, statues, historic coffins, decorated pottery - all can be found here. There are sheets with info in English, but they are located at strange places so you need to puzzle it out a bit. Nonetheless, worth a visit. ‬

‪While the architecture of the building is quite nice, this museum does not offer something you have not seen elsewhere in the region. It's no must, go there only, if you have time available. Better concentrate on the necropolis. Parking is close by.‬

‪What a surprise! We weren't sure what to expect. The museum housed artifacts that were removed from the Necropolis nearby. We spent a couple of hours examining how life was like a couple of centuries ago. Well worth the visit.‬

‪Three hours spent here.. So worth the effort. The amount of historical information about the Etruscans was unbelievable. An amazing place to visit. So much to see and do along with plenty of historical reading and viewing of thousands of artifacts‬

‪BURSTING WITH ALL THINGS ETRUSCAN‬

‪This museum is bursting with all things Etruscan. Found it a bit overwhelming, as there was so much to take in. Put aside a few hours for this feast of treasures spread over three floors, most of the material comes from the Necropolis of Monterozzi, some dating back to 9th century BC. The pottery is exquisite and the ground floor contains the sarcophagi, which were a personal favourite, some are incredibly decorative.

Items in cabinets are labelled in Italian, however, in each room is a box containing A4 sheets of laminated paper, with information in English and German, (can’t remember if there were other languages). Items on sheet are numbered and correspond with material on display, making it very easy to identify various pieces. Well thought out museum, with exhibiting so many pieces.

All these treasures are housed in the beautiful Palazzo Vitelleschi, built 1436 - 1439 which was commissioned by Cardinal Giovanni Vitelleschi. Open Tuesday - Sunday, 8.30am - 7.30pm. Closed Monday, Christmas Day and New Year. Ticket Museum €6 or Museum & Necropolis €8. Opening times and prices are from website.‬

‪The BIG site in the area is, of course, the necropolis, but many of the best finds from the necropolis are lovingly displayed here in air-conditioned comfort. If you come in the summer, get out to the necropolis early and spend the heat of the day in the museum!! So much more to see than the amazing horses!!!‬
