‪Curiously idiosyncratic blast from past years ‬
זוגות • דצמ׳ 2020
‪As you edge round a blind corner on the waters edge coughing loudly in case someone else maybe about to do the same from the other side, the stream quiet gentle trickle reveals a grand majestic water mill. On close inspection you are politely asked by a notice to ensure clean boots before entering which is facilitated by a thick brush hanging on a chain near a sloped concrete dip into the stream. With clean boots and mask in place we were permitted entry into the shop or museum or perhaps both. Whilst small it's crammed with oddities for any personality if you look long enough and it's a real joy to just browse. Came away with handmade lambs wool soap and a little map. On exit back round the bend of the stream some beautiful cottage gardens finish the view which could find a place in any miss Marple novel. ‬

‪We've visited this lovely old mill museum/gift shop twice this year as we were going past. Beautiful old mill and lovely to see it being preserved, but it's main focus is being a gift shop and I wouldn't recommend going a long distance just to visit this. It's really a gift shop in an old mill at the moment. On both occasions we found the staff a little strange and I wasn't surprised to discover reviewers who have been upset by them. We didn't have children with us but this is a museum listed under "children's museums" which won't allow under 11's at the moment and apparently only well-behaved over 11's, so if you are a family then I wouldn't go while that is the case.‬

‪Refused entry‬
אוק׳ 2020
‪I was refused entry for displaying a disability exemption badge and lanyard rather than wearing a mask.

This is contrary to HM government guidelines and may also be a breach of the Disability Act 2010. We will not be visiting again.‬

‪Lovely little mill museum in the heart of Lower Slaughter; with a better-than-average range of local produce and souvenirs.‬

‪Uninteresting old music in an interesting old mill‬
אוק׳ 2020
‪A quick review to acknowledge our visit to this museum in Lower Slaughter, near Stow-on-the-Wold in the beautiful Cotswolds. We were on a short break, to celebrate my birthday, and staying in the nearby village of Blockley. Lower Slaughter is another 1,000 year old village amongst many others in this very attractive AONB.

The Museum is housed in the old mill on the banks of the River Eye, once flour was milled here by water and by steam power (hence the chimney stack). There are records in the Doomsday book confirming that a mill has existed in this locale for about 1,000 years. Flour was last milled here in 1958 and since then it was a family-run Bakery, Post Office and Shop for 33 years, and after a three year closure it reopened as a Museum and Shop and that continues 25 years on to this day.

The museum has a collection of vintage machinery and we understand that the millstones can be viewed by removing the floorboards in the milling room. Other historical flour milling and bread-making kit and equipment are on view.

The shop offers an array of fancy goods, gifts, paintings, books, wool and silk and leather clothing, luggage and bags, preserved foodstuffs, and garden stoneware but to name a few.

We wandered around for about 25 minutes and almost bought some leather bags but we decided we needed to assess required sizes first before committing to a purchase that would have been between £100 and £150.

It was an enjoyable visit, and the lady shop keeper was pleasant, but we did find the shop’s continuous jazz and crooning music from the mid-20th Century a bit wearing on the nerves.

Once the restrictions are lifted and guided tours of the mill recommence we hope we will be able to return and find out more.‬

‪Rude, aggressive staff, unwelcoming awful experience!!‬
משפחה • אוק׳ 2020
‪I today visited The Old Mill museum in Lower Slaughter.

I went into the museum with my daughter who is 4 years old. She really wanted to see the mill inside.

Unfortunately I made the most horrendous crime of not reading the sign correctly which was positioned outside regarding children under the age of 11 not being permitted. (Also only the most well behaved children can enter)

I walked around the museum and then went into the shop, I was chatting to my daughter when a male from behind the counter stated abruptly “DID YOU NOT READ THE SIGN”
I said “SORRY”, yet again abruptly the male said “DID YOU NOT READ THE SIGN” “UNDER 11s ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THE SHOP”
“EVERYONE MUST WEAR A MASK” he stated. The male was NOT wearing his own mask.

Due to this males manner, I said I would leave the shop, he followed close behind me and my 4 year old daughter, not adhering to the 2m social distancing rule!
I opened the door and he slammed it behind me!

What an awful experience to have with my very young daughter.
Could this male not have said “HELLO, UNFORTUNATELY CHILDREN ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THE SHOP” this would have been much more appropriate for the situation which was obviously a misunderstanding.

What a shame this beautiful mill is in this ‘closed’ village.

And what a shame this male is allowed to work in this shop were he can abuse visitors in this way.

Please be aware and stay clear.‬

‪No children allowed‬
משפחה • אוק׳ 2020
‪Drove 50 minutes to get here with 2 young children only to find this sign outside. I know of no evidence to suggest that children under 11 are a greater covid risk so can only assume this is an excuse to prevent children going. I might have been understanding if there was a warning on the website and if some sort of explanation or apology was given. I can only assume the people who run this place are rude and mean-spirited so don’t really want to go back even if I’m allowed to.‬

‪Tourists made unwelcome!‬
זוגות • ספט׳ 2020
‪Called at Lower Slaughter with family on our way home and was disgusted by the attitude of the old guy in the Mill museum, on approaching the door holding the hand of my 6 year old granddaughter he said no under 11s and sarcastically told me to read the sign- the same sign that says no dogs and if you have a guide dog you have to carry it!! What???? Rude, rude rude. The village seems overloaded with signage - yes we are in a pandemic but to t open if you don’t want us there. The little takeWay cafe too had rude staff, I only enquired if the ice cream shop was open snd again was rudely instructed to read the sign! Can you people not be pleasant and polite st all? Totally spoilt the experience of this stunning little village. If tourists are so troublesome then maybe find smother way to earn your living as what you go obviously makes you miserable!‬
