‪I lost my camera somewhere at the Nagano train station & didn't notice until we were nearly at Yamanouchi. On arrival, I drew a rough picture of the camera and took it to the information desk at Yamanouchi station. Ayaka (she's the one in their brochure!) couldn't have been more helpful. She asked where we were staying and what colour the camera was and then asked us to sit for a moment. Within minutes she was back to inform me that staff at the other station had managed to locate the camera and would deliver it (free of charge) on the next train, but were concerned in case it got scratched. (Apparently they had first offered to keep the camera safe until we passed back through in a few days - Ayaka told them this wasn't good enough as we were surely going to want photos of the local macaques !) Once I told her I was happy for it to be delivered at our risk she said she would arrange it immediately. In the meantime, she had already contacted our Ryokan (inn) and arranged for the owner to take our luggage and then drop us at a local street festival where we were given free sake while we watched the festivities. Half an hour and a few sakes later my camera arrived, carefully wrapped in bubble wrap and brown paper. What a perfect welcome to Yudanaka/Yamanouchi! P.S. On our last day we arrived at the station to find Ayaka waiting for us, she had come in on her day off to say goodbye and to give me a parting gift of a silk camera case to keep my camera safe in future. This is the kind of thoughtful and helpful touch that epitomises what travellers love about Japan. Thank you Ayaka, and I hope we see you again one day! By the way, there is also a thermal footbath outside the station where travellers and locals gather to warm their feet and have a relaxing chat...‬

‪Great stopover‬

‪Stop over at this stop after visiting the snow monkey park and driving back to nagano.

They sell cooked food here and there's a shopping area where one can find some local souvenirs. There's one tent selling strawberries and apples located at the back of this place.

Ordered some standard Japanese dishes and they were pretty good. The views are amazing too looking at the Japanese alps.‬

‪Good souvenir shop‬
דצמ׳ 2015
‪This town has been poor for travel souvenir and local stuff. Here is best to find good ones. And small restaurant there is, soba, curry and ramen. Soba with templa is great value for money. Unfortunately the shop close 4p.m., it's caused a lot of visitors just passed over after skiing.‬
