This monastery is certainly not one of the most impressive in Armenia; but it has a special charm, which derives from at least two reasons.
The first one is its condition of construction reduced in part to ruins.
I wrote "in part", because in fact another part is quite well preserved: the church itself (which an inscription claims to be founded in 1247), an imposing katchkar on the outside. But both the preserved parts and those reduced to ruins, present a mixture between the surviving work of men and the natural environment that regains its rights (with the herbs and mosses - we are at 1300 m. - penetrating into all the walls, preserved and not preserved), with the result of providing abundant material for reflection on what is usually called the "transience of human things".
The second reason attracting to this place is that it's far from the carriage road, therefore the path towards it involves crossing a dense forest, luxuriant thanks to the particular rainfall of the Dilijan region. Then, the march towards the monastery also enhances the feeling of the strength of the natural environment, in which the Armenians of the past have inserted this testimony of their faith.
Overall, therefore, a walk to the monastery is highly recommended.

I had a long journey by car to this monastery, even locals did not know where exactly is located, after all i had some how 30 min hiking and after following the sign i reached the place, i was alone, it was a strange feeling
It is almost a ruin but well, for adventure tourists can be fine

Perfect place, hidden in the forest. Nice hike in the wild nature that you will never forget. Safe place.

Fantastic place , it is really worth visit. You must go into beautiful forest and will see very old monastery, 12 century, it is like magical place, a little mystical.

This place is hard to climb, but it worths it. The mysterious church and mysterious spirit is just awesome. But you should climg it during the day.

Beautiful scenery but we never reached the monastery. Very strenuous and we hiked for 1 hour and still didn’t reach the top. Steep incline. Do not suggest for not experienced hikers.

The roads leading to the trailhead in Dilijan national park were exactly what I was expecting-rough- but a good driver should have no problem getting you there. If you plan on visiting make sure you pack water and take comfortable shoes. You can’t reach the church by car and it is at least 1-1.5 hours each way. The scenery was beautiful but the gradient was steep so you’ll be miserable if you’re not physically and mentally prepared

An added bonus as part of a nice but poorly marked circular walk taking in the two monasteries. Dilijan TIC suggest doing it anti clockwise which was good advice making the last steep section downhill.

This monastery was located at the quiet hightop. The surrounding area was also beautiful. This monastery was under renovation when we visited. But, we still managed to take many good photos of this monastery.
