Hi - just got back following a six day trip - enjoyed some aspects and others less so - difficult to sum it up! As for the hiking (I have reasonable experiences) the tourist info center map is useless. In fact I would say it is a dangerous reference point since many of the tracks have poor markings and/or rerouted. I downloaded an app produced by HIKEArmenia - depending on your experience this could be very useful. Sadly the EU funding has been completely wasted on a fancy building but not much else (typical i would say of how much of the natural resources of this amazing country are being wasted and institutions seem not to care). My advice - if you are experienced then it is well worth a trip but don’t be complacent! If you are not then perhaps search for a local guide and ensure you have the basics - right shoes as a minimum, fully charged phone or two, lots of water. I would say that you do not attempt the longer routes unless you know what you are doing and are confident in navigating else it could get dangerous quickly as tracks could lead you up steep inclines with equally challenging declines! Dilijan is beautiful and could be a lot more! As for places to stay - I stayed at Hover and have left a review on TA. I wouldn’t stay there again. Plenty of other options. People are friendly though a bit reserved. Taxis are the usual the world over, download Yandex or GG either of these will serve you well to and from airport, from note to trail start points, carry cash and don’t expect change in coinage! In short - unless you plan to hike there isn’t too much the wow factor fades after a day unless your deep in the national park where it truly is beautiful! Finally, if you are a beginner or not confident in navigating there is a reasonably straightforward trail near the Hagarstin Monastery - 3 km both ways with moderate elevation at the end of it as Ana amazing water fall system deep in the park - it’s on the app I referenced earlier.
