Nice walk up to castle through old town. Only takes 30mins to look around the castle. Theres not much there, but its the location and views that make it worthwhile.

A good way to start your trip to Alcal del Jucar as you can climb over the battlements and see great views of what lies below. There is also some rooms which show what living in the castle was like. Signs are in Spanish only but it is an interesting enough building in itself to take a trip around.

A visit to the Castle at Alcala del Jucar, Spain

We were traveling through the region and had heard of the castle on the cliff top, so we stopped by. It was an amazing example of early defense systems and the adaptability we have for our environment. Well worth the visit. Recommended. Lots of uphill walking!

The castle is quite small but worth having a look at. It can be reached by walking up through the village which is quite a steep and challenging route. You can also get to,it round the edge of the village by car. We walked up and enjoyed the views and ambience of the village on the way. The entry fee was only a couple of euros and the views are truly breath taking. Alcalá Del Jucar is a really beautiful little village.

I think it took us longer to walk up to the castle than the actual tour around it! Very well preserved, undoubtedly, but there is very little to see inside and what is documented there is only in Spanish, so many visitors will miss out on that, too. The entrance fee of 2 Euros 50 is expensive, by Spanish standards and it is certainly not for those with mobility problems, because the only two rooms, which are accessible are only reached via very narrow winding staircases.

Google tried to send us over a bridge that a car couldn't go over, so a local told us a different way. Once we got to where he said to go, we found ourselves in a dirt parking area at least 300 meters above the castle which was down an impassably steep narrow road. We got to see the castle only from above and from a distance. The entire town of Jucar is 600 residents and driving around there is only for the brave.

Cool Town, Not Worth Major Detour

The town and castle are built along the sides of a steep river gorge. The town itself in step form with narrow, winding streets that go from the gorge floor to the castle at the top. It’s a very unique place, but WAY off the beaten path. There isn’t much happening here, and things are closed, even when they say they are open. If you are passing close, its worth a quick stop, but don’t make a huge detour just to see it.

A better than expected visit

Greater than it looks, you can enjoy a magnificent view over the valley and over the city. There are a few nice loopholes to throw the arrows, or for that matter, boiling water, that give you a glimpse of what was all that about in the middle age. Enjoyed it!

Tough climb from the village below but lovely views when you get up here, a small entrance fee. Of course you can drive up but finding parking is the problem.

Husband loves a castle

Quite a bit to see and fantastic views... outside information has English translation but inside does not .. but this is a proper Spanish town which is what we wanted
