‪This was a waste of time. We tried to visit but it was closed even though the sign indicated it should be open. We saw an official person there and he just shrugged his shoulders and walked away. It looked run down from the outside.
Save your time and go instead to Cartuja de Miraflores! Beautiful and well organized. ‬

‪We came here by chance as we had noticed the signs when heading to Milleflores. It is a bit further on but worth the drive from town. It is now a Cistercian Monastery although in the past it was Benedictine and they still have items relating to St Benedict. It was sacked by the Moors and all the monks beheaded in the cloisters. The monastery is also famous because El Cid left his wife and daughters here for safety during his exile.
The tours are done by the monks and we were lucky enough to have a charming monk who spoke excellent English. The monastery is certainly worth a visit.‬

‪I am not normally one for religious establishments but this Monastery has none of the ostentatious trappings of wealth and is quite simple. Our group were shown around by one of the monks, an 85 year old with a great sense of humour who had been there since he was 12 and a half. The place has an interesting history and also a shop selling produce and gifts. It was the original burial place of El Cid.‬
