My husband has stayed at lusty glaze since he was a child. This summer we decided to stay on the beach. It truly is a beautiful beach however lusty glaze as a restaurant and cafe now barely exists.
If you are staying there you are almost a bother to them.
Due to the absence of a restaurant we decided to book the Pickled Chef for one of our evenings. He had offered us 8 starter options and 8 main options. He told us the evening he could cater for us (which was the evening before he was cooking for a wedding. Win win for him he could drive down have a job the night before the wedding and work the wedding) We met him in the morning of our private meal and he said he hadn’t worked out the menu yet. We told him we liked fairly simple fresh foods with flavour and that we would like a fish burger for our six year old. On the evening menu two of the four options were battered fish and chips and a battered fish burger and chips! The food was disappointing and uninventive. This year we were lucky to experience a private chef in another location and The Pickled Chef did not come close.
The following morning we went into the dining area to have a cup of coffee and sit for twenty minutes in an out of the way area while they set up for the wedding. We were then told that the coffee machine was they thought off but would check. My husband just wanted to check a couple of things on his lap top. We asked again if coffee was available and could see coffee cups scattered around. We were told it wasn’t possible and that they were drinking instant coffee. We could see they had been drinking coffee from the coffee machine. I then said It was part of their new un customer focused culture. We had spent £2000 on accommodation and £500 on The Pickled Chef and rather than saying to us oh have a coffee but please understand you can’t sit he told us to leave!!!!
Prior to this my husband had booked the cottage for next year for us to return and I had asked a couple of questions and no one came back to me with any response.
We asked for a broom to sweep the sand out of the chalet and they came to me with a dustpan and brush. I was frustrated and said that I couldn’t sweep the whole chalet with a dustpan and brush. I then found a broom myself so went to tell them I had found a broom and not to worry and they were outright rude to me telling me no one had ever asked for a broom before. On a sandy beach! The interesting thing is that they have treated me and us like we are being difficult. The Pickled Chef was so aggressive my 6 year old was scared of him and I was in tears. I have never been treated like this.
Some of the staff there are lovely. Young and untrained but super sweet.
A real disappointment.
It’s a shame because this used to be a wonderful family place. A big departure from what it was.

Dear Zorb
Thank you for taking the time to portray your version of your stay with us at Lusty Glaze. Naturally, any feedback positive or negative is discussed with our team and it would be fair to say that the entire team gave a very different account of your experience with us.
It is extremely rare, thank goodness, that our team is treated with such rudeness and contempt. It would be opportune to note that clicking fingers at staff is no longer (if it ever was!) acceptable. Your demands were met with the upmost courtesy from our team, however, there comes a point where abuse and rudeness will not be tolerated, which is why you were asked to leave the premises.
With regard to your points below, it is futile expanding on a public forum. It was impossible to reason with you when you were on the premises, further discussion is unlikely to produce any positive outcome.
Your family have always been welcome at Lusty Glaze, especially during the extremely difficult times you have experienced in recent years. We hope that we have extended empathy, kindness and care during your troubles. We are deeply disappointed that such wonderful memories for your husband (who, according to the team, was quite delightful) have been tarnished by your visit. We do however look forward to welcoming the remainder of your family back to the beach that they continue to enjoy, during the summer holidays.

Until we discovered this little gem our favourite Newquay beach was Fistral. This trumps it hands down. In fact this is the best UK beach I've been on in my 50 years. The climb down the steps is steep though so not good if you've mobility issues or pushchair. The beach is small and protected by cliffs on 3 sides. The beach bar is STUNNING. We sadly didn't stay long as we stopped by after checking out of our caravan but will most definitely be back

If you can cope with the steps this is a little gem of a beach. We were recommended it so popped along to have a look and ended up staying a while and having a couple of beers. It's absolutely beautiful and well worth the climb down. Highly recommend this place.

I’m very biased as I have many happy childhood memories of summer hols on lusty glaze. I totally love it here. And in the cafe the best hot chocolate ever to warm up a December day.

The beach was lovely but we were unable to use the restaurant/bar toilets as only dinners were aloud. The main issue which spoilt out day was the parking. We paid for a ticket and later decided to stay longer so went back and paid for another ticket. The price of the 2 tickets was 20p short of a 24 hour ticket. We were 19 mins late getting the second ticket and BANG there you go a £100 ticket fine. You get 15 mins in order to obtain a ticket so a whole 4 mins late. Because of this i will not be visiting Lusty Glaze again.

My daughter travelled especially to visit the Christmas Fair as advertised. We visited this morning only to find that the fair had been cancelled!!
Whilst understandable that it was cancelled (although it was fine today) as the weather has been bad the last few days.
It was really annoying that as of today the website had not been changed to update that the event had been cancelled!! Such a simple thing to do!

The beach is down about 120 steps and they currently have no working public toilets so it’s really not the best place for disabled people. I’m not sure if we just went on a bad day but be aware that the tide can come in very quickly and you can get trapped if you paddle over to the next beach! Lots of jellyfish too.

Having paddled along all the beaches in Newquay we stopped here for a while to eat sandwiches and enjoy the view before tackling the steps up. It was a very pleasant spot on our day out.
There were mermaids there too that day!

This beach was so pretty and clean! Lots of rocks and some cool caves in the rocks, I didn't venture in to far but was intriguing! It had a restaurant and a little bar and some shacks for other shops not quite sure what they were a few were closed. But gorgeous beach, everyone was spread out well, socially distancing. They also have toilets on the beach, but were closed due to covid. Parking was a great location at the top and could pay via an app. My only comment was all the steps down to the beach, going down was fine but coming back up when pregnant is a hard task. 🤣.

A wonderfully secluded private beach with golden sand and fantastic access to the sea. The only downside are the 120 steps to reach the beach - not easy to get to with lots of equipment! Once there, however, it's worth it for the views and beach experience like no other.

Is there any access for disabled people?

Hi Bevk. Unfortunately our only access is via the 133 steps. However, the steps are sectioned into platforms of approx 10-15 steps meaning there is a little resting spot at regular intervals. For guests attending weddings etc we do have alternative solutions. Please drop us an email or give us a call and we would be very happy to chat things through with you.

If the weather is lovely, yes - either the Headland or Fistral but in the rain definitely go for a cab!
