‪Closed but view free‬
נוב׳ 2021
‪The myth is perpetuated but the magic is there for viewing. There is a car park by the church and then a short and pleasant walk down a paved track gives a wonderful view of the promontory, both bridges, castle and nearby rather austere hotel. Of course you don't get to go in the castle but save the money for lunch.‬

‪A VERY LONG WALK TO FIND IT VERY EXPENSIVE ‬
זוגות • ספט׳ 2021
‪Well maybe 1.5 stars would be my choice. From the village of Tintagel you can take a ride in a Land Rover to the cafe and ticket office. I think that ride was £2 single. The wife and I walked. It didn't look too far on Google Earth. However, it was a long way down hill and a long way up hill just to get to the ticket office. £19+ for an adult SITE ONLY. The castle was £16 each EXTRA.
Absolutely not worth it!
I learnt more and saw more by watching Dr Alice Roberts on YouTube the week before we went.
The previous year, I had had a quadruple bypass and this walk did take it out of me. My wife has a bad knee. This walk inflamed her knee.
There is no signs giving distances and gradient difficulties involved on the walk.

THE SITE: Next to nothing apart from a hidden stone hut and a few old walls. Of course the statue of Arthur was the focal point and that's at the furthest part of the walk.

THE CASTLE RUINS: can be seen clearly but access is at a cost of £16 each, lol. And again another long walk to it.

OVERALL: VERY, VERY DISAPPOINTED. Weather was lovely though.

‪Pleasant visit, but not notified that bridge and island were closed, despite pre-booking.‬
משפחה • נוב׳ 2021
‪Booked in advance and paid over £50 for3 adults and 2 children. Arrived to find access to the island was closed due to high winds. Like others, we did not receive any advance notice/email about this, so we’re slightly disappointed, as we were under the impression from our booking that we would have been notified in advance, and could then have decided whether or not to make the journey. Also surprised to read that the refund can take up to 10 working days - yet the money is taken straight away!
We still enjoyed our trip - the walk to the headland was lovely, and you can still access the beach/Merlin’s cave/the exhibition, cafe and shop, plus get great views of the bridge and island.‬

‪Magical‬
זוגות • נוב׳ 2021
‪We’ve always loved the idea of the Merlin/Arthur legend, so this was a must do on our visit to Cornwall. The site really is magical. You park in the village, there are a couple of car parks but we parked next to the visitor centre, which was also great as it had exhibits, so we learnt some extra facts about the area and tips from the staff member about more things to do. The bridge leading up to the castle remains gives you bay views for miles on a clear day, we got really lucky on our visit because it was a sunny, relatively hot day in November. There are plaques next to the ruins explaining where various structures used to be and who used to live in them. The walk itself could potentially be dangerous as it is on a cliff edge - it’s fine if you keep to the paths and well back but I probably wouldn’t recommend it for children. People were standing uncomfortably close to the cliff edge for photos, you can see why they close the site on windy days. If you walk down to the beach on your route out of the castle, you can see Merlin’s cave (complete with a small carving of Merlin’s face on the left of the cave entrance!) and a stunning waterfall that runs onto the beach. This was one of our favourite trips whilst in Cornwall, and we rewarded ourselves with a pasty in Tintagel on the way back to the car!‬

‪History Meets Legend‬
אוג׳ 2021
‪I read about Tintagel Castle before my arrival and enjoyed the tales that make this place a mix of history and legend. There is not much left of the castle - just remains and foundations to inspire the mind - there's also a statue of "King Arthur", Merlin's Cave and the modern, high-levgel suspension bridge - but we avoided the crossing onto the island and saved on the bob or two that English Heritage demands. Instead we did an extensive walk along the cliffs, returning via the gateway to the island - we took in all the spectacular views supported by my pre-reading. Lots of people taking the Land Rovers up and down from the village (which is only a very short walk). Overall this is a must do but I'm not sure that we'd have got any more enjoyment if we'd crossed the bridge.‬

‪Fabulous but not cheap ‬
זוגות • נוב׳ 2021
‪The lovely wife and I visited recently and really enjoyed the history and grandeur of the castle.

Some amazing views, especially when the sun is out.

The footbridge is not for the faint of heart but it's a must do ‬

‪A must do when you’re down this way, a touch expensive??‬
זוגות • נוב׳ 2021
‪It really is a must do… the history of the site transports you back centuries despite the new additions. Which, by the way are welcome, the bridge adds a whole new element to the site, improves accessibility and beautifully mixes new with old. I loved this place and spent a good couple of hours exploring. Agree with some other reviewers that it is maybe slightly overpriced, but it’s one of the best attractions in Cornwall (in dry weather) do bite the bullet and go for it‬

Hi, We're sorry you felt the experience was overpriced. Combined with our museum, footbridge, and historic island, it provides a full day out for many of our visitors. English Heritage is a charity and every penny of the admission prices at Tintagel Castle goes towards maintaining and conserving the castle, as well as other historic sites in our care.

‪Good visit‬
אוק׳ 2021
‪This is an English Heritage site which dates back to the early Middle Ages. Discover the land where history meets legend. This is a very interesting site, with some beautiful scenic views. There is a lot of walking, with many steps. It was also very windy that day, but no rain. Essential to wear good wallking shoes. From the cafe/shop, we took the Land Rover ride up to the top. Very pleased we did this visit.‬

‪Amazing! We were lucky with the weather too‬
זוגות • אוק׳ 2021
‪I cannot recommend this place enough! Staff were very friendly. The views are amazing. But be prepared you are at the mercy of the Great British weather. If it’s too windy the bridge does have to close but it’s that or get blown over and fall to the rocks below.

We got lucky we were fully expecting it to be really windy and torrential rain but the sun came out and the bridge was open!

Thank you to all the staff here you made the day a pleasant one and we got to take lots of photos.‬

‪Nice church on the hill‬
ספט׳ 2021
‪Probably best to avoid the place.
English Heritage have obviously put some money into this project but its a bit of a stretch to call it a castle. There was a castle there once, but not now. Castle foundations maybe. One part of a side wall and a few outcrops are all that is left You need to read the signs to figure out what went there. I realise the link with a King Arthur is tenuous but it hasn't stopped EH from trying to milk it. Merlin's cave is tidal so unless he was part fish its an obvious lie so do check your tide times if you want to go down. The best parts of the 'castle' are the 21st century add ons like the statue and bridge.
Yes, great views out to sea but that is available all along the coast without paying for it.
Tintagel itself has sold its soul to the castle and is now nothing more than a large gift shop. It changed its name to Tintagel to be associated.
And the lady who guided us towards the 'castle' from English Heritage was extremely rude. If you can't talk to the public without getting aggressive then your in the wrong job ! Certainly didn't help my overall impression. Second time going and unless they add a fun slide down to the sea , which I am not ruling out completely I won't be returning.
On the plus side there is a nice walk along the coast and an old church that overlooks the outcrop, visible from the village. There is free parking for about 20 cars, take the no through road/parish church and follow it to its end.‬
