poor presentation
many children and adults disappointed
either it is for children and you make it fun or engaging (none of these)
or if you want to target teenagers/adults you make it a bit interesting
instead it was just boring
.please review how you structure planetarium presentation as it is such a shame to waste everyone's time

Having visited the original London planetarium in the late 1980s/ early 90s when i was a child, i had high hopes now technology had moved on 40years, or so i thought so i booked for last monday 19th August.
What a let down, on all fronts and to be honest a waste of time and money, i think the family would have enjoyed something else.
It started while in the que, the person scanning the tickets said "dont sit at the front", which puzzled me a bit but when we got in the room you could see why. We ended up one row from the front because by chance we were near the back of the line on this sitting. The seats do recline but neither my other half or our child could hold the seat in the reclined position so they spent the half hour with a cricked neck. Im sure the old planetarium was a circle?, anyhow.
We chose "The Sky Tonight" for our booking, and how underwhelming it was. It started with the narrator chp coming to the front to explain where the exits were, no eating etc, he then asked if we could hear him ok? He then dimmed the lights and retired to the rear of the room. At this point the show started, then he starts speaking and he got quieter, and quieter, and quieter to the point you struggle to hear what he was saying (then the person beside us bought out an apple to chomp on, but thats another story).
Then comes the show on the roof and what a complete let down. Now i thought technology had moved on in 40 years, but i can only assume the same 40year old projectors were used. Everything was dreadfully blurry, the stars are smudgy blots, none of which are very sharp at all. You only had to look at the projector lenses to see half the problem but surely buy some HD projectors. Half the show was behind our heads as previously mentioned.
Another thing was the narration is all live and poorly done, also with a very week voice. It needs to be an older person with a very deep voice with some gravitas, depth and some expression to draw you in, much like film trailers, this in itself would make it more interesting.
Then came the content, it was mainly about the star signs and constellations, rather than a trip round the planets. Id have at least of thought they would have mentioned Voyager and where it is to when explaining the milky way. Then everything just ended.
All in all, poorly scripted, poorly exectuted, poor content and poor value. If i were you i would do something else with your money.
I appreciate it really has to be a live narration as the sky changes daily but please employ a person for the job with a proper voice!, along with some new modern projectors (or clean the lenses every show), make the show minimum 45minutes, improve the content and maybe you could charge a little more and still be better value.

We went to the night sky show which was amazing,it was so cool and crazy to think all of this exists. It was made interactive which really brought the show to life and wonderfully presented. The seats reclined so you could watch it comfortably. There is a gift shop and toilets on site which was nice.Would highly recommend!

Having now read the reviews, I partly wish that we hadn't wasted our money to go the the Planetarium. I went to the original one years ago and had high expectations with modern technology. But as another reviewer said, while the seats were comfy, the show was more than disappointing and frankly rather boring. We expected both a more interesting show, and also better visuals. I would maybe have been happy if the admission price had been less, but adding the 12 GBP to the 20GBP we paid for the Observatory, this is 12GBP that could have been better spent.

For me, I can only describe my Peter Harrison planetarium experience as very, very poor. Having been to the former planetarium in the 1980’s, I expected by now, an absolutely amazing experience, particularly given the technology of today. How wrong was I. The comfort and projection of the dome it self was very first class - but that’s where the praise ends. The show was live narrated by a staff member who tried painfully at times to get some of the audience to shout out and participate in helping identify some of the projected stars and constellations - which for me, broke the mood of getting absorbed into the stars being projected above your head. It was painful. She (the narrator) then engaged in some dialogue about Greek mythology and gave little to no idea about the science of our stars or planets nor indeed a quick reference about Peter Harrison himself. No planets were mentioned at all, no whizzing around space to get an idea of what life is like above our heads - just 20 odd minutes of average information and certainly we came away no further educated in what we had just seen. There may well be other shows that the Peter Harrison Planetarium show - but most people are unlikely to keep revisiting the same location. I have recently had the privilege of seeing the Hayden planetarium in the American Museum of Natural History (New York) - and it ran circles around the UK’s one. I am a very positive man with a very open mind, but the damp squib applause at the end of the show that I saw at the Peter Harrison Planetarium, was a testament to the unanimous sentiment of the audience. Such a missed opportunity and I would really strongly suggest the curators of this show go back to the drawing board and start again - harsh I know, but this show really was very disappointing. I would give it a D+ (Must try harder).

So disappointing. Took the grandchildren expecting to see space - planets and stars - instead a preachy diatribe about the state of our planet which was basically just a film with some special effects. Some of it aimed at pre-school level - baby satellites -and then the rest at adults - more about satellites. Very dull. We know about the dreadful state of the earth and don't need to pay a fortune to have more of it on a day out. I felt patronised, swindled and cross - remembering the wonder of the old London Planetarium - and the children's fascination with space.....

The very best bit of the visit was the helpful and friendly staff - nothing was too much trouble. The show itself was interesting and the set up is great but there isn't much in the way of "space" around which is rather perplexing. All in all, worth a visit

For the only Planetarium in London this was a rip off at £12 a ticket for a show which didn’t last very long.
It was basically ‘this is the night sky with light pollution and this is the night sky without light pollution’.
I’m afraid I’ve seen better displays standing on Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire or in the Outback in Australia or go to the Kielder Observatory in Northumberland
So,
- make it longer
- include the planets
- inspire the youngsters
- this should be a wow
My brother said he’d seen a better display at the Planetarium in Baker Street when he was eight years old.
For now, don’t waste your money as I’m embarrassed as a Londoner with this offering.

We walked up the hill for our visit to the planetarium and couldn't find the entrance! Follow the signs for the café. The show itself was informative and entertaining, the hostess was relaxed and added humour. Get there early for the best seats in the middle. A great day out including the museum. Parking is available for £10 per day in Park Row, booked in advance

I don't suppose there are wheelchairs or mobility scooters to hire?
I'd really like take someone but they have trouble walking any distance, especially uphill.

There is limited parking right outside the planetarium.
Nit sure how many blue badge spaces there are.
I didn’t see any mobility scooters or wheelchairs to hire, you could maybe do that in advance from home to bring with you?

Hi,
Are the 'the Sky Tonight' and 'Moons beyond Counting' shows suitable for a 6 and 8 year old, or would they be better off with 'Ted's Space Adventure'?
Thanks
נכתבה בתאריך 25 בדצמבר 2019
For a 6 and 8 year old I would suggest the third option, as the first two, although very interesting are more “ technical”.

Which show is the best to visit? A review above said counting the moons was excellent. I thought a basic sky at night would be good too but i´d be interested in recommendations please. Thank you.

You need to do your own research on what shows are available, then choose the one which most interests in terms of subject matter; is shown at the most convenient time for you and your group; is child appropriate if you have children in your group; fits your budget.

Hello! A visit to the Observatory is included in London Pass, but I didn't find any information on the London Pass website about what exactly London Pass covers: ticket to Observatory only or a combo-ticket to Observatory + Planetarium.
Does anyone know: a visit to the Planetarium is included in London Pass or I need to buy a separate ticket? Many thanks!

I got Royal Museums Greenwich tickets which includes all the museums on Greenwich and various discounts. Worth doing if you can spend a few days in this area.

Hi, do we need to buy tickets to get into the Royal Observatory in order to watch the shows at Planetarium? My kids are only interested in the show, not so much of the Observatory.
Thanks.
נכתבה בתאריך 22 בנובמבר 2018
No... you do not need to buy tickets to get into the Royal Observatory in order to watch the shows at Planetarium?
You can buy tickets just for the Planetarium only. But the shows can be very popular so it may be well to but them in advance so as to avoid disappointment.

Is this near the wax works ? What is the best thing to book for a child aged 7 :-) thanks
נכתבה בתאריך 17 בספטמבר 2018
Nowhere near Madame Tussauds although they used to be next to each other many years back. Wax works is overpriced and too crowded usually but lots to do in Greenwich for youngsters.

My complaint about the planetarium was that it seemed aimed at kids, but it still might be over the head of a kid of 7. Maybe not.
נכתבה בתאריך 2 בנובמבר 2018
Do I have to pay to enter the royal observatory if all I want to do is watch a planetarium show?
נכתבה בתאריך 30 ביולי 2018
Hi,
I don’t believe you do. I think the planetarium tickets are separate. You can always check online or give them a call.
Hope this helps!
נכתבה בתאריך 11 באוגוסט 2018
Is it necessary to buy tickets on line? I have tried to purchase some online but it comes back with, all online tickets sold out. Now, does that mean if I turn up on that date I will be able to buy some at the door. I'm wondering whether to take the risk as its the oy day we can go. Any ideas, advice please.

My son and I just happened to be passing and made the spontaneous decision to go in. the one show was full, but we got places for the next - which happened to be the last show of the day (Friday, in our case). I didn't even think to book online.
