‪Who knew tiles were so beautiful? Go have a look, works of art. A great destination. We enjoyed the exhibits in the collection .‬

‪Not so much a' night on the tiles' as an afternoon.‬

‪This was my second visit to the museum, and I think I enjoyed it even more than the first. The tiles are works of art, their designs charting artistic movements. Not sure how long we were there but they had to ask us to leave when it was closing time. We were staying at the nearby Valley Hotel which had been the family home of Maw, one of the Coalbrookdale tile makers, and his tiles decorated the downstairs corridors and the staircase to the first floor.
I think this museum is for adults - young children would be bored - and a lot of teenagers would switch off, but not those with an artistic leaning.
You have to pay for the car park (the ANPR failed for us). It seems a bit unreasonable to ask people to pay £1 an hour every time they visit an attraction (on top of the entrance cost/Ironbridge Pass) . We might have walked more but the weather was filthy!‬

‪Tiles galore.‬

‪We walked to the museum from the Coalport museum, not an difficult walk but seemed further than we had expected on a warm day. The museum has hundreds of different types of tiles on display, mainly singles but there are some lovely murals made up from tiles. It was nice to see the original building was being put to good use and some of the original tile manufacturing equipment.
Enjoyable, informative, but I think not suitable for children, they would soon be bored.‬

‪Very interesting old tile factory. Walks you through the process and development of the tile industry during the industrial revolution. Amazing to see some of the original buildings still intact.‬

‪A hidden gem.‬

‪Well worth a visit. Lots of history, and some beautiful tiles on display. We walked from Ironbridge, an easy walk about a mile along the old railway line bed, and the building appears almost from nowhere. Small, probably not suitable for younger kids, but is oldies thoroughly enjoyed it. ‬

‪Loved it! Situated in a quiet village, unprepossessing entrance - full of jewels! Hundreds of great designs - loads of variety- well displayed with interesting info. Only wish more tiles had been available in gift shop...I was ready to splurge!‬

‪I think you’re either going to love this or wonder what the heck it’s for. I loved it, an amazing range of tiles on display and great to see some recreated spaces like the pub and butcher’s. The only duff note was the somewhat disinterested staff member on the entrance - we arrived a bit after four so maybe she was in count down to home time. I think there was something special about black cats, as there seemed to be a silhouette of one in each room but she never mentioned it. In all honesty, kids will probably be bored but promise them an ice cream in Ironbridge and enjoy. I agree with comments that it’s missing some practical demos- there are posters explaining how encaustic tiles were made in most rooms but I still couldn’t picture it in my head - crying out for a “here’s each stage” display.‬

‪In short - dire.
Having been to a number of the Ironbridge gorge attractions, this has left a sour taste.
It is just multiple rooms filled with tiles in various displays.
Now, I know that is kind of to be expected given it is a tile museum, but there is no life here for children or families.
Having visited the Ironbridge gorge pottery which has people demonstrating how the items are made in workshops, this is desperately dull.
We had heard of the tile decoration workshops available but could find no mention of them on the website - we assumed they were shut due to COVID. Only on arriving did we find they are bookable using a linked event website. I have yet to find it via the Ironbridge attractions site.
The tile decoration area of the museum was closed up today anyway - probably as booking is near-impossible?
Being underwhelmed by the museum, we headed to Fusion - the artists collective opposite. Nope, all closed up too.
In short, we were in around and out in under an hour - that included returning to the entrance to pay for parking as the payment terminal was broken.Met a guy in the car park who said “yeah, it usually is.” So clearly not a new issue.
In short - this place may be of interest to adult-only groups. It has absolutely nothing for children.

Such a disappointment.‬

‪Really interesting place to visit‬

‪Really enjoyed this place - very well designed space full of interesting and informative exhibits. Lifts for those that need them. I'm interested in art and design so was in my element here looking at all the varieties of tiles and their uses. Loved it. Visited as part of our annual pass to the Ironbridge museums. Great value for money and thoroughly recommended.‬
