‪Mice infestation‬
חברים • ספט׳ 2020
‪Unfortunately, I don’t recommend staying at the Centre Culturel Irlandais unless you enjoy sharing your kitchen and bedroom with rodents. The CCI is situated in a beautiful part of Paris and it is a shame that management have not resolved the mice infestation.‬

‪A small piece of home in Paris‬
משפחה • ינו׳ 2019
‪Had read about the centre online and yesterday my daughter (8) and I decided to give it a visit. Situated near the Sorbonne and the Pantheon, it’s in a quiet street and well off any tourist trail. Being a Sunday afternoon we were the only visitors and the tea room and reading rooms were shut (will know that for next time as I could have done with some coffee). Enjoyed the virtual reality art and speaking with the staff. What a lovely place to visit. ‬

‪Oasis close to the Parthenon‬

‪Near the Pantheon, you can tell you’re in the right place when the street name changes to Rue des Irlandais. The large entry door is usually closed, but unlocked. Upon entry, you find a large courtyard and a U-shaped building. To the right is St. Patrick’s Chapel, a little gem of a decorated space where concerts take place. Irish artists can spend time staying here. This center has been here for many decades, having a history during World War II. I stumbled upon a concert here by searching for events on the days I was in Paris. I chose this over a Bach concert in a church. It was quite a discovery. If you are in Paris, be sure to check here to see if there is something of interest going on. it’s a lovely venue.‬

‪Karol Wojtyla‬
זוגות • פבר׳ 2017
‪Situated in the very heart of bohemian Paris in the elegant 5th arrondissement and just around the corner from the Pantheon lies the former College des Irlandais, now the Irish Cultural Centre. The college was home to a community of Irish priests, seminarians and lay scholars dating back to 1578. In 1945 the building was commandeered by the U.S. Army for the repatriation of prisoners of war. Subsequently the Polish seminary in Paris moved their headquarters here and remained in situ until 1997. It was during this period that Karol Wojtyla was a frequent visitor and lived for a period of time in the college, this fact alone attracts many visitors, particularly from Eastern Europe. In the year 2000 The Irish Government, to their eternal credit, pledged major funding for the refurbishment of the building with the expressed objective of it then becoming a significant cultural and educational centre on mainland Europe. A proud tradition that once flourished in Louvain, Salamanca, Prague, Lisbon and Lille now flourishes today on Rue des Irlandais. One of the many highlights to be enjoyed on a visit includes the 18th century library with a beautiful and rare collection of theological and historic books from the middle ages. Rooms are somewhat monastic and sadly not at all in consonance with with the rest of this charming complex. Staff are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful and the centre offers short term accommodation to both Irish passport holders and visitors with an interest in Ireland and it's culture. The Sunday morning 1130 mass in the Chapelle de Saint Patrick is a highly recommended service that it is followed by a cup of Barry's tea, a slice of cake and a cupla focal out under the cover of the courtyard's shady trees. From CDG take RER B, Luxembourg stop and Metro 10, Place Monge. Slainte.‬

‪College Irlandais Cultural Center‬

‪This is a unique jewel just blocks from the Sorbonne in Paris. It has a fabulous garden to visit and all kinds of exhibitions to see relating to Irish culture. The day I visited, it had a terrific photography exhibition of pictures taken throughout the Emerald Isle.
As the Curators saw I was enjoying the photographs so, they asked me if I had any Irish bloodline. I answered yes and they recommended that I go to the second Floor and sit in on one of the Gaelic classes being taught at that moment. Of course I followed their advice and marveled at the language of my ancestors (though I understood little of the grammar formation). It was a delightful time and I returned two nights later for a poetry reading by contemporary Irish poets who happened to be in Paris at the time.
In all, it was a great find in a city with unique, hidden treasures to find. I look forward to returning to the Center on my next trip to Paris!!!!‬

‪Beautiful Irish oasis in Paris‬
זוגות • יוני 2016
‪We stayed for three nights on a sightseeing trip.. Location wise we found it excellent - Rue des Irlandais is a very quiet street near the latin quarter. It's close to wonderful attractions such as the Panthenon, the Luxembourg gardens and the Jardin des Plantes.

The metro station Cardinal Lemoine is a five minute walk, which connects easily with RER line to Charles de Gaulle airport.

5 minutes away is the Rue Mouffetard which is lined with restaurants and a couple more minutes brings you to the small square, Place de la Contrescarpe, which bustles with cafes and bars.

The courtyard of the centre is beautiful as is St Patrick's Chapel which occupies one wing of the building. The staff were friendly and helpful. There were no cultural events on in the centre during our stay but if you're lucky there are often exhibitions taking place.

The accommodation is basic but very comfortable and clean. A simple breakfast was included.

The only minor quibble was that the WIFI didn't work in our room (but accessible in the nearby common area). Otherwise an ideal base from which to explore Paris.‬

‪Horrifying oiled stairs take away from artistic oasis in the heart of Paris‬
עסקי • יוני 2015
‪The Centre Culturel Irlandais boasts many attractions. The well kept courtyard is magnificent and provides an excellent location for picnics and lunches. The chapel is a wonderful relic of times gone by and allows for relaxation from the bustle of everyday Parisian life.

Even the staff are ultra friendly, provided of course that you are a visitor and not actually paying rent to live there. The head of administration is extremely accommodating and makes every effort to ensure your visit is not ruined by the sight of the lazy and unsophisticated students who somehow believe it is within their rights to be present in this historical courtyard for a mere €728 a month.

Pity then, for the horrifying sight which greeted me as I went into the main building. After having feasted my eyes upon the cultural delights of the courtyard and the wonderfully artistic 'man breathing loudly on video on repeat' in the exhibition room, my visit took a dark turn as I ascended the stairs to the 1st floor, my shoes began to stick to the approximately 4 inches of oil which had laid itself on the stairs like an unwelcome in-law at Christmas dinner. Appalled, I demanded why these historic two square inches had been desecrated in such an irresponsible way.

Until these wonderful stairs, which are of course the main attraction of the Centre Culturel and not just a medium to reach the higher floors of a building off-limits to visitors, are re-varnished, I will be taking my business to the Finnish Cultural Centre.

At least they have nice stairs.‬

‪Perfect Location‬
‪The Centre offers reasonably priced accommodation in a central location. You won't get any frills, but you also won't be better placed for visiting attractions etc. It is a historic building, with a lovely courtyard for sitting out; the rooms are en suite and simply furnished.‬
