‪Real people telling real stories of their experience in communist east germany. If you ever wondered how this could happen, check out the museum to see how the Stassi worked to control the people, there was resistance, but when you're neighbour or friend could be spying on you and you trusted them... well that could be to your peril.

Sad thing is I'm sure this is still happening in the world today.‬

‪This exhibition incredibly tight focus. The free audio guides are a nice touch. It's a Bundes-German Government production and admission is also free. Basically it outlines the Orwellian nature of STASI administration and control. It gives some compelling insights into how STASI organized and segmented its data - tough to do in the non-DB age but possible if you have enough bodies to throw at the problem.‬

‪This was a really interesting exhibition tucked away behind the hustle and bustle of Checkpoint Charlie. There is a free audioguide which is very informative and has interviews with people who were arrested by the Stasi. The exhibit is only in a small room, but there is a lot of information packed in!‬

‪Forget the touristy Check point Charlie and visit this exhibition instead! It is an excellent exhibition on the Stasi and on GDR state security. The exhibition is free and their is a free audio guide which is very informative. It is a quiet place but the staff are unobtrusive so you feel free to express emotion and whisper to your companions! Very moving.‬

‪Although very hot inside, this was worth a look around (audio provided) as there is an awful lot of information covering life in the former East Berlin -probably need a good hour+ to read everything in line with audio guide.‬

‪This is a very well presented permanent exhibition and gives a very good overview of the operation of the Stasi in the DDR. There are a number of personal recollections recorded and it is well worth a visit. While there are publications for purchase there is also a free informative booklet on the operation of the Stasi in a number of languages.
It is also where applications can be made to Stasi records.
Admission is free and a free Audio Guide is provided. A TIP FOR ALL MUSEUMS - take your own ear buds or overhead headphones to save holding the Audio Guide to your ear for the whole tour.
It is easily accessible from U-Bahn station Kochstrasse (U6) and is close to Checkpoint Charlie. Zimmerstrasse runs off Friedrichstrasse.‬
