‪A special exhibit of the history of electronic music spanning from the earliest attempts of "electric noise" through the groundbreaking work of Kraftwerk and further on to recent years! Great experience - even in 3D (You will get 3D glasses at the museum).‬

‪What’s with these German art museums with, supposedly world-class permanent collections, decided not to show them. Instead, some lousy “exhibits” that frankly no one really cares about. And it’s not really announced clearly on the website. Plus, the exhibits require timed online ticket. So yeah, no. I’ll change my review once I’ve seen the collection, whenever that is.‬

‪The building is large and impressive on the outside, with classic modern refurbishing by Ungers on the inside. We visited an excellent exhibition about powerwoman/ influencer 18th century artist Angelika Kauffmann. The explanatory wall texts are good, as is the wayfinding. On the outside, there are two 'hidden' mosaic walls by Dutch artist Thorn Prikker.‬

‪I looked on reviews-website in German, no clue that it has just closed for 3 years!

So we only bought a catalog in English to see what we missed.

Germany is doing well with Corona-don’t step into a building without your mask!

We like this policy!‬

‪Located on the Rhein, only minutes away from our hotel. They need to put a sign on the outside that says "tickets" with arrow, because it is not clear where the main entrance is located. Permanent collection is not flashy. Highlight includes two Rubens. One special exhibition on Pierre Cardin was extremely well done. The permanent glass collection is amazingly comprehensive. Has a nice cafe with simple fare. All in all, I would categorize this museum as recommended but if one is pressed for time and has to make choices, it can be skipped.‬

‪I'm hardly a fashionista, but both my wife and sister-in-law have *opinions* about fashion, so when I found myself in Dusseldorf after a work trip recently, I figured I'd have a look around, and take some pictures that I could send them.

As it turns out, I had a blast exploring this exhibit. Pierre Cardin's high fashion clothes are a brilliant snapshot of what people in the 1960s thought of as futuristic and avant-garde. Every piece is so "of-the-60s" in a truly delightful way, with some pieces bordering on the hilariously ridiculous. Words don't do it justice, so I'm going to attach a bunch of photos that I took.

If you find yourself in Dusseldorf before May 2020, this is definitely worth a visit.‬

‪We only visited the permanent collection, skipping the three special exhibits on offer for lack of time. There’s a nice selection of paintings from various historical periods, of course with emphasis on German artists. There’s a fair amount of sculpture too. Most of the works have at least some explanation in English as well as in German. There’s a very comprehensive section on pieces of art glass too. The good, reasonably priced cafe is in an airy atrium.‬

‪Really worth a visit! A great place with a very large collection to see. It is super clean and has s wardrobe for storing clothes/bags. I was allowed to take photos with my professional camera the whole way around just as long as it didn’t have the flash on. There is no options for vegans in the cafe and it would be great to see more in the future. ‬

‪Alltogether interesting and good quality collection of modern and classical art, divided over various parts of the building. One could choose whether or not one wanted to see the temporary exhibition or not. We chose not, unfortunately the deliniation of where the permanent collection and the temp exhibition areas were was not clear and we ended up in the temp area and were asked in a quite friendly way to go back. Needs some attention there. We enjoyed our visit after walking along the Rhine Promanade.‬

‪Maybe my timing was bad- Looks like I visited between special exhibitions, and maybe during renovations? The museum itself describes the permanent collection as 'scant', and it was, even though there were some interesting paintings in the 20th century department. The older, 17/18/19th century stuff was bland beyond compare. One collection was sketches for larger works- not really intended for public display, and it shows. Most of the other older paintings were just filler- very few works of museum quality. Another odd thing- You enter to the 20th century collection, go in reverse chronological order, the back to modern art. You have to open some unmarked doors to get through the building- I asked, but otherwise how would you know? The glass collection is quite comprehensive- pristine objects thousands of years old, to present day stuff. Great if you're onto that. If I'm ever in Dusseldorf again I may give Kunstpalast another chance, but I'll be looking a bit closer at what is and is not on display.‬
