Arrived quite early on Sunday and enjoyed the quiet walk through the botanical gardens. Easy going with just a few steps. Loads to see.
By the time we left, just before noon, there were no parking spaces free and it was quite busy.
Best of all, it’s free and well worth a look.

Beautiful, very extensive gardens, growing plants which are native to the Canary Islands. We also saw lots of Monarch butterflies, which have become common in Gran Canaria. The cacti garden is particularly impressive. The gardens grow in a natural gorge and many plants are growing on the rocky side of the gorge. The paths in the level part of the gatden are wide and easy to walk on, but the paths and steps up to the higher areas are very steep and rocky. You can get a bus out to the gardens, but you will be set down near the entrance at the top of the garden and have to follow steep steps down, with no handrails - not suitable if you are not sure-footed! A taxi out from town is not expensive and staff in the gardens' reception office at the main entance will call one for your return journey.

We caught the 303 bus from las Palmas, the nearest stop being about 350 metre walk from bus stop along edge of busy road- it was doable but would probably be a bit scary if you were going with children. Whist the botanic gardens were interesting and the area they covered huge we felt the whole attraction needed a lot more 'tlc'- to be frank it looked tired and in need of a lot of maintenance and rejuvenation in some areas. The cactus area was good although we did note that a lot of the cactus were from Mexico. Entry is free and there is a car park at the lower end if you are driving.

Not much flowering in November, but still a well laid out & enjoyable park with much to see. Cacti particularly good. Read earlier reviews, parked at the bottom & stayed there. Didn't seem much need to clamber up the cliff. Loos at the lower car park, but no refreshments - for that you do have to ascend the ravine!

Very amazing and free to enter. Clean public toilets and friendly / helpful staff :) . The only problem is getting there safely from the city using transit or hiking. That is why we gave it 4 points of a total of 5 points. There are no public transit buses / stops available at the lower entrance. Both the upper and lower entrance are very dangerous to walk too from where the nearest walking path ends. Safe arrival and exit by walking is dangerous & stressful with kids as the traffic is very fast and you must walk along the road shoulder to get to a safe walking path.

This is a very pleasant way to spend a couple of hours walking through an interesting garden,
There are on this listing some critical reviews. Northern Europeans should remember this is an arid site. Do not expect serried rows of perfectly positioned delicate flowers. There will be some weeds but they do not thrive due to the nature of the gardens and as the site is reputedly the largest botanical garden in Spain there will never be the resources for it to be immaculate. Its function is mainly to conserve and demonstrate the flora of the Canary islands and to maintain a habitat where those plants will thrive. The cacti collection seems to have specimens from all over the world.
We saw, in April many trees, shrubs, and cacti in flower.
It is free and has ample car parking which is well signed from the exit on the autoroute.
There are no leaflets but there is a plan at the entrance to give you your bearings and various signposts around the gardens directing you to its various features. There are occasional information boards in spanish and english offering helpful information.
The cactus garden is astonishing and world class.
There are no facilities for refreshments so take your own supplies. It would be a very good place for a picnic.
Kids, I fear, will find it dull unless they have a particular enthusiasm for botany. There is no play or recreation area. That is not the point of the garden.
Well worth the trip. The closer you look the more there is to see especially for the enthusiast.

10 mins drive from
Las Palmas. We parked at the top of the gardens and a bit of a hairy walk down along small paths not great if you don’t like heights. Once down paths lead you through the garden. Not much flowering but probably wrong time of year. Cactus garden was amazing. Clean toilets but nothing else. Take drink and food. We spent 2 hours there. Was also free.

Extreeeeemely disappointing. Firstly, there’s no sign from the bus stop on the dual carriageway to the upper entrance across the road so we took our lives in our hands, following the road signs and walked about 2km along the very busy, narrow, winding road to reach the lower entrance which was signposted for cars. A very nasty start to our visit! Once inside the garden, apart from a map stuck to the office wall, there are no maps or directions at junctions of paths or any information about the plants which all look desperately lacking in care. The exhibition hall looked as if it’s been shut for many years, the fountains don’t work, some of the paths are closed and it’s altogether a very sad place. There’s nowhere to leave bags or pushchairs, no cafe, no shop. It’s very definitely totally unsuitable for children and for anyone who’s unfit, especially anyone with mobility problems, as the gardens straddle a cliff face. It’s a perfect example of an attraction which would be deemed ‘inaccessible’. We’d really looked forward to our visit to learn about Canarian flora but, after trying to navigate our way out for about an hour, left feeling very, very sad at the neglect and lack of respect for those who’d established the garden and for the plants themselves, especially when there seems to be no lack of funding for public works of art - isn’t nature more important to all of us?

This attraction is outside the city. I took a taxi from my hotel which dropped me off at the lower entrance. The best parts of the garden are near the lower entrance. Beware it is a steep climb to the upper entrance. However The best way to catch a bus back to the city is to leave via the upper entrance. Just cross over the road and you will see a bus stop on the left. Buses regularly stop here. If you like cacti and palm trees then you should visit this garden.

Does anyone know if we can get a bus from Maspalomas to the gardens? Many thanks

I believe
You need to first get a bus from M to The capital La P bus station and then change to a different bus to reach the Botanic Gardens. This is easy to do and the buses are cheap to use.
Bonjour,
J'essaye de vous contacter par mails et téléphones depuis quelques jours déjà et je n'y arrive pas (pourtant j'utilise le numéro de téléphone de TripAdvisor).
Merci de votre compréhension et de l'attention que vous porter à ma requête.

I ate at the restaurant that is by the entrance on the top. It wars nice outside. Onside there is a great view over the garden but too noisy of the maschines like refrigerator etc. The food was good, the price acceptable.

Hi how suitable is the park for an elderly wheelchair user who can also do limited walking and some steps? If so, Is it better to enter on the top entrance and wheel downhill or lower entrance and push uphill?

The top is not wheelchair accessible in my opinion. We did not bring the strolled based upon a friends advice and were lad we left it at home. The lower gardens were pretty manageable and were quite lovely. It clearly wasn't made with wheelchairs in mind, but with a touch of patience will be worth it.

Many thanks to those who answered my earlier question about getting to the garden. A second question is can I get a bus from near the garden to Vegueta?
