The municipal museum has a nice collection of largely contemporary art. Definitely cutting edge. When we went there was a very large temporary exhibit of record album art that would really impress most baby boomers. There are a few Goyas hidden away, but the main focus is on contemporary art. A hidden gem, and it's free.

This city chose not to be home for Frank Geary's Guggenheim museum for reasons that it might spoil the image of one of the largest concentrations of Belle Epoch architecture in all of Europe. This museum exemplifies that desire to remain true to that principle.

Nice old style building containing some lovely paintings from the early 20th century and also some very odd "art" such as a rose in a condom instead of a vase! It is next door to the Library (biblioteca) good luck on getting into that one! and also the casa-museo is just a few steps away. Free entry.

Great museum over two floors. Great looking building adjoining the Pelano library, galleries over two floors with a mixture of sculpture, paintings, photography and installation. Hadn't heard of most of the artists but lovely curatorship evident in how the works are styled/hung. Nice way to spend an hour away from the noise of Santander!

This free museum is in a great old mansion with a wonderful spiral staircase. Other than one Goya, one Miro and two Haffer photographs there was little worthwhile art in this museum. There were some interesting paintings by little known artists. In one room was The Glob, a TV projection on a large round "glob" showing a distorted face, moving and making sounds--that was fairly interesting.
