‪The Palacio de Galiana is located on a large state on the banks of the Tagus at the outskirts of the walled city of Toledo. The gorgeous Mudejar-style villa was built for king Alfonso X on the ruins of a country house once owned by Talifa king Al-Mamún. It was named in honor of the beautiful Princess Galiana, the legendary wife of Charlemagne. Beginning in the 1950s, the estate was restored and the garden designed under the auspices of its new owner. The previous owner was Empress Eugénie de Montijo, wife of Napoleon III. We had a delightful lunch after a brief tour of the garden and residence. Our hostess, married to the future Duque de Alba, pointed out the many important artifacts, as she related the history of the state. The meal was first rate, and elegantly served.‬
