This small version of an arc de triumph is located on the Duomo square and is dedicated to Alvise Vallaresso, a Venetian magistrate who was appointed at the height of a terrible epidemic of the black plague that eventually reduced the population of Padua by half. Vallaresso implemented a number of public health measures (quite unpopular at the time), including quarantining the sick, moving the cemetery outside the city limits and charged the physicians with reforming the city hospital. These measures rapidly decreased the epidemic's fury and within a year, it ended. The arch is the work of Giambattista della Scala, and was erected in 1632.
