We have visited few villages to see murals in Sardinia, but this one was our favourite one by far. It's a small and quiet village but there are heaps of murals all around. It's very close to Bosa.

I hail from San Francisco, California, where murals abound, so when I walked the quaint town of Tinnura I was absolutely delighted with the abundance, quality, and scope of murals. The town is a hidden gem, and I photographed more than 50 beautiful murals. Being a weekend, bus service was limited, so I traveled on ARST bus 9223 from Bosa to Suni (15 minutes, €2.30), then walked an easy 15 minutes to Tinnura, while on weekdays I believe there is bus service to the town. Plan 2 hours to explore the town.

Travelling from Bosa to Olbia airport we had some time to kill and found reviews of these murals on T.A. so decided to drive through and take a look.
They are much better than we anticipated; so detailed, varied and beautiful. We parked our car and ended up spending about an hour wandering around the streets hunting for them all and we found even more that we'd missed as we drove out. Even the teenagers in our party were impressed, need I say more?! The local school even had characters painted on their wall, it really is beautiful.

The town of Tinnura has wonderul public murals. If you are driving nearby, take 30 min to park in the town and go for a stroll.
There are no maps or post boards so you just have to wander around. It would be nice if the town would put up a map listing all the locations. And it would have been nice to understand the characters and scenes....but in any case well worth the stroll.

Murals, mainly painted by artist Pina Monne, adorn this pretty little village near Bosa, Sardinia. A good friendly bar on the main street, Disma's is usually open and will welcome you for a drink or a cup of tea. Another friendly bar is in the fountain square.

On the way to Santa Caterina from Alghero, we had the extremely good fortune to stop in the little and charming village of Tinnura. The town was empty as the residents are mostly farmers and do a reverse commute from those in the States. Sardinians who own farms most often live in a nearby town and go back and forth to their farm from town. Tinnura would not be on the "map" for tourism for any reason, excepting that it is an incredible stop to view some recent murals. (Painting murals in public places is a tradition on Sardinia since the 60's and begun by reknowned sculptor, Pinuccio Sciola) Tinnura might be known as the "village of murals" and the main street has many colourful pictures covering the sides and fronts of houses. Pina Monne, who is the youngest and the only female of a famous group of muralists, lives in Tinnura. We did not see mention of Tinnura in any of the guidebooks on Sardinia we read, so this could well be a hidden "gem" worth looking into.
