The most interesting part of the exhibit was the film about the restoration of the censored Artemisia Gentileschi painting. There were also some interesting paintings, historic materials, and sculpture.

At the end of a full day of visiting museums and churches, we made a mad dash to the Casa Buonarotti, arriving about 30 minutes before closing on a Sunday afternoon. The staff were most gracious at admitting us to the museum, making sure we knew that they close promptly. Once owned by Michelangelo, Casa Buonarroti was once the home of Michelangelo's nephew Leonardo Buonarroti, who had acquired many drawings and other works by Michelangelo. Later Michelangelo's great nephew Michelangelo Buonarroti decorated the rooms in his family residence with sculptures, drawings, and more. Today we are able to see two famous marble sculptures by young Michelangelo: the Madonna of the Stairs and the Battle of the Centaurs...a real pleasure to see since we had seen other Michelangelo works in Florence museums and churches. We were happy to have a chance to see Artemisia Gentileschi's Allegory of Inclination, which is now being restored onsite through April 2023; it is one of numerous works of art on the ceilings. There are 12 galleries on the second floor, plus an archeology room. It was interesting to see the house, including a courtyard, and contemplate life back in the day of Michelangelo. Only drawback to our visit was no map or signage to describe the art works.

The displays and art and sculpture are interesting but if you are expecting to see a lot of work by Michelangelo or even much about his life you will be disappointed

Visiting house of Michelangelo is necessary if you want to see Michelangelo's early sculptures of Madonna of the stairs and the Battle of Centaurs. Casa Buonarotti is not crowded at all. The staff is very polite and grateful for any questions you will ask. This place also contains a numerous portraits of Michelangelo Buonarotti. Also a very interesting point of visiting Casa Buonarroti is a room named The room of night and day in which the ceiling of the room illustrates a moment when God has separated day (on the one end of the room) and night (on the opposite end of the room). It's a 5 minutes walk from the Basilica di Santa Croce where Michelangelo has his tomb.

This museum has exhibits related to Michelangelo and other members of his family. This is the site where Michelangelo once lived but the building and the displays were greatly orchestrated by his nephew. The most interesting pieces on display are two early sculpture works by young Michelangelo: Madonna of the Steps and Battle of the Centaurs. There are drawings by Michelangelo and the rooms contain many pieces of the later art collection of his family. Very interesting and worthwhile, but if it is your first visit to Florence and you have limited time, I wouldn't consider visiting here to be a priority.

This is not one of the big galleries in Florence, but well worth a visit to see all about Micheal Angelo

I probably should have read more on what was in this museum before we came. We were staying between Santa Croce Church and this museum, so it was not out of the way at all. The house was built by Michelangelo's nephew after he died. It is thought that Michelangelo lived on this property when he was a teen. In it are several early works of Michelangelo's and two portraits of him. I had moped that it would include more on how he worked, how he sculpted some of his major works - things like that. For that reason I was disappointed. It is a quiet, not crowded place, even in the heaviest tourist season, so if you're a Michelangelo lover, then this would be a place for you to visit.

Michelangelo never lived here. It was built after his death on a site where he supposedly lived as a teenager. There are some of his early works but not worth a planned visit.

This was a small but great museum! They have some nice pieces by Michelangelo and some interesting exhibitions focusing on how he influenced later artists. Most all of the wall text/labels were in Italian (with only a few in English). You can easily get through the entire thing (and spend time appreciating some great pieces) in less than an hour. It’s worth going if you are visiting Florence for the art! I loved it because I’m in art history and also prefer smaller museums. But if you aren’t an art lover - you will be disappointed.

Salve!
