This is a lovely place to walk along through the town. Loads of boats, loads of places to sit. The river passes the library and also the castle. Keep walking until you reach the sea.

We did a mullti day hiking trip mostly along the Nissan river. it is a nice river to hike next to and the surrounding area is also very nice. the is enough current in it so the are not that many mosquitos while hiking. Great experience!

The Nissan river has always played a major role for the city of Halmstad and the area is now being revitalised You will quite a distinction between the east bank (modern, vibrant) and the west bank (cafes, older parks, museums).
The west bank forms the boundary of the older part of Halmstad and the city centre. Starting from the mouth of the river modern flats are being built with wide walkways on the water's edge. Then one comes to Halmstad "castle", the residence of the country governor. Cross the main road and here you have a long row of waterside cafes and bars (some floating on the river) and the city centre immediately to your letter with a long pedestrian street and the main square. Pass the old city ramparts and wall and you are in N Katts park, traditional with avenues of trees and a café up on a small mound and following that, having crossed the old railway line into the centre of town, the city museum with a good café.
If you then cross the river and start walking southwards back towards the sea you will notice a completely different atmosphere. Old factories and worker's houses have been demolished and replaced with a lot of imaginative architecture and blocks of flats with a lot of glass and stainless steel. The riverside walk has plenty of benches and places to sit and enjoy your own picnic. Having passed the red steel girder railway bridge you arrive at the fairly recently landscaped Filt park and then the city library and theatre with it's impressive glass viewing area jutting out into the river. There is an excellent café here with outdoor seating in the park to the south of the library. The Picasso park follows this with sculptures and events. On the river you will often see athletes sculling and rowing in 4 and 8s and for the more adventurous an opportunity to try paddle boards. Don't forget to admire the façade of the old buildings behind you as you approach the main bridge and having crossed the road there you walk along the small boat moorings, a couple more cafes before approaching the more commercial docks and wharf with an ice breaker usually moored at the end.
This south - north walk up one side of the river and down the other takes a leisurely 2 hours with plenty of stops for tea, coffee and cakes - the traditional Swedish fika!

Passing the center of Halmstad, with really nice walks along the river. Most fantastic during the spring-time, this is a relaxing and most beautiful part of the city. Start on one side, pass a bridge, and g back on the other side.

Tylosand is my Swedish favorite for many reasons: Windsurfing, swimming, the prestine nature surounding and the proximity to two of the most beautiful towns in Europe, Malmo and Gothenburg. Days in summer are loooooong; my mates and went out into the surf at 03h00 in the morning. The short nights are still offering prime partying with the young folks. Fantastic destination.

Hi, does anyone know if there are small slow boat cruises on the Nissan R, up and down? If you know, where is the starting point? Thanks

Sorry, no boat cruise. Rent a Stand up paddle board insted.
