‪This museum will take about an hour of your time. It is well set up, with videos (subtitles in English) displays, a tour of the house and a visit to the shop. Very interesting person who lived an exceptional life. Glad to see so many of her Tibetan artifacts on display.‬

‪It is very interesting to learn about Alexandra David-Neel, who inspires everybody.
The information in the museum is very good, and the friendly staff offered a special guide tour in English for me.
I would like to visit again.‬

‪Learn the history and culture of the lands that the lady visited under harsh circumstances. There is a slide/film show, exhibits, a guide giving the explanations and of course - souvenirs.‬

‪My husband and I emailed ahead and were fortunate to receive a private tour of this museum and the actual home of Alexandra David-Neel. Fabulous woman, devoted Buddhist and author of many books, she traveled to Tibet by disguising herself with the clothing of a Tibetan servant and by darkening her face with coal dust. The excellent people guiding us through the beautiful exhibits (in English) brought her book My Journey to Lhasa to life and gave us precious insight into much we hadn't known about her. Enthusiastically recommended!‬

‪This wonderful little museum covers the life and travels of the great Alexandra David-Neel, and Tibetan Buddhism. It was the reason why I came to Digne.

We were taken round by a formidable lady who had once been secretary and companion to Madame David-Neel. I got off to a bad start by mispronouncing "Neel".

Very highly recommended indeed for anyone with an interest in Alexandra David-Neel, in exploration, in Tibet, or in Buddhism generally.

It's not difficult to find if you come by train. From the station, walk up the river to the bridge in the middle of town, cross the bridge, then double back down the river on the other side. After a few hundred yards you'll see the museum on your left.‬

‪We had visited Digne many years ago but didn't remember it as big as it is now. We had heard about this museum and stopped at the tourist office on a drive from Grenoble to Grasse along the Route Napoleon. We hadn't realised that there was a guided tour which took more than an hour in total at specific times. We stopped outside in order simply to get a view of the house and perhaps purchase a guide book to learn more about this remarkable lady. There was a guide in the little shop in the house who spoke English and we were able to buy postcards, a booklet etc. and see a little of the house on our way in and out as well as the gardens. It is a most unusual place and if you have time to visit, it is well worth allowing time to see this.‬

‪I visited Digne Les Bains only to visit this museum. I have long been a fan of Alexandra David-Neel, a remarkable figure with a fantastic story: unloved child, opera singer, Buddhist adept, adventurer, adoptive mother of a Tibetan lama. Visits to the museum are guided, although the guides leave plenty of time to fully examine the various artifacts from Alexandra's life and items that illustrate Tibetan culture and religion. The final part of the visit is to Alexandra's house, which she bought because she thought the region resembled Tibet. All fascinating. If this lady's story interests you, or are interested in Tibet, this is a highly worthwhile visit. Many of the exhibits are labeled in English, but the museum doesn't receive many English speaking visitors, I think. At least one of the staff members I spoke to seemed to speak pretty good English, although we conversed almost entirely in French. If you don't speak French, email the museum in advance so they can be prepared, so you can get the most out of this highly intriguing place.‬
