Just spent a week skiing with a family of 2 adults and 2 experienced teen skiers. This was their 7th ski trip and we found the resort brilliant. We stayed in a self catering apartment near the bottom of the Diable chair lift and found that easy acess every day. Due to the elevation of the resort the runs were great late season, although starting to get slushy and difficult at the end of the week due to usage, but nothing compared to some other resorts. The ability to use the gondola to go down the resort at the end of the day is fantastic and really extends your day up there knowing you don't have to make it down to the bottom with tired legs! The teenagers loved the Toura area and we thought this was really well set up.
Overall, we found food prices on the mountain expensive (but no more than other big resorts), but what we did buy was good quality. We tended to take our own packed lunches up and there are loads of areas available for picnics. Down in the resort the choice of restaurants was massive and we had 3 very good meals out (Le Sherpa Restaurant, Le QG and Restaurant L'Orignal - Canadian) which catered for families well. Again, not cheap but very good quality food,
I wouldn't personally choose this as a beginner resort for young kids, it is busy with large school groups and a lot of unaccompanied teenagers/young 20s skiers and snowboarders which can be hard work navigating through. But for more experienced skiers it is an excellent resort with a huge ski area and was a great family destination.

A great ski area especially being able to ski at 3500m on blues. All the way down.
The signage is poor in resort. The hike from Diable to Venosc is an ordeal you have to look out for an elevator but the climb up after is arduous. Best not use Venosc unless you’re staying close by. The Link via petite aguille is best. The green trail called cretes is very difficult for a novice. The mountain eateries are poorly organised so unnecessary queues take the pleasure out of using them. The restaurant atop Diable is very expensive and not worth the extra. You’re advised to book even though it’s only third occupied. There was security on the mountain restaurant doors bag searching for what ?
Best restaurants in town BC7 Nice The Spot rowdy but good food. The Canadian.
The best we tried. Bars are mostly laddish drinking spots. Poor toilets.
The ice grotto is great walkers can get there. We stayed at Flocons Hotel 2star but clean Friendly great value for money. .
Get a hotel near the main lifts if you can. Hope this info useful.

After heavy snow a few weeks back there’s not been much again but I do think SATA do a great job grooming and managing the snow - Vallee Blanche and mont-de-lans runs open
New infrastructure at Diable and Vallee Blanche make a big difference
Only criticism remains parking in town
The only other bit of feedback I’d give would be to move the zone tranquille signs and monitors further down the bottom section of the jandhri where it narrows - serves little purpose at the top adjacent to Cretes lift

Excellent is an understatement. My experience here was as good as they get. I came here with mu university and had the best experience of my life - now this is quite distinct because of that but honestly - amazing resort, amazing slopes, went with the best people and Wasteland provided us so well.
If you want a good place to go skiing as a social group, this is a top, top place for it. Especially younger people around the typical university age bracket.

Went down Les Petit Cretes with my girlfriend who is a beginner. This should not be called a green run and it’s criminal that it is. It’s a very narrow run with hairpin turns, constant cliff drops the whole way and littered with hundreds of skiers and boarders. All of this together does not constitute a green.
To make it worse, and this is where the one star comes from, we had to walk down to the chairlift back up to Diable. When we got there, knackered, the chairlift guy wouldn’t let us on. The chairlift was still working. We said we’d have to call mountain rescue because my girlfriend couldn’t get down. He pointed back up a blue slope and said we had to walk. This is after a few kilometres walking in ski boots already. He wouldn’t radio ahead, he wouldn’t help in any way.
If you work on the mountain, it’s your responsibility to make sure everyone gets down safe. The man working the chairlift at the bottom of Les Petit Cretes, going up to Diable should be sacked immediately. We were in absolute shock that he refused to help 2 genuine people.
This isn’t one of those “oh we were slightly put out” reviews, this was seriously dangerous.
The mountain rescue people who eventually helped were absolutely beautiful people and they have our eternal thanks.
Les Deux is a great place, but some of the people here ruin it unfortunately.

Due to other commitments not spent as much time at the chalet as we’d have liked but just had a great week mountain biking and walking
Like how they’ve added a new mod-section on the valley Blanche green
I’m not sure pied moutet is a blue through the trees?? Likewise bike patrol for a blue is tough! First time we’d done the run all the way down from 3200 - it was great fun
Really impressed to see all the investment from SATA - there seems to be work everywhere
Excited to use the new Valle Blanche telemix this winter!

I wrote a review in the summer when we were out at our chalet commending L2A for the facilities and events they put on during tough and unprecedented times
I’ve just come back from two ski trips to our place (family Christmas and a January lads trip)
L2A rocks!!
Slopes still quiet and well maintained
Not all the lifts running in December but they were struggling with low visitor numbers and covid amongst staff as I understand it
This January everything open
Lots of snow making
Lots of new infrastructure (Cretes, Pierre gross, super venosc) with more planned
Staff all friendly and helpful - again in tough times, masks, covid app etc
Most of the restaurants and bars are spot on
My biggest criticism (only at peak weeks) is the lack of parking - but that applies to 95% of ski resorts I’ve ever been to (and I’ve been to a lot in Europe and beyond)

Thank you for your feedback ! Indeed the generous snowfall that happened in December and early January enabled us to open the entire ski area, while the new Super Venosc ski lift gave access to the Pied-Moutet side of the mountain in only 4,5min. We hope and would be delighted to welcome you again in Les 2 Alpes to discover the new projects that will see the day over the upcoming seasons.

Let’s start with the good: a great mountain with some fantastic views as you would expect. Some pretty good slopes for a demanding skier and of course the famous, incomparable vertical drop.
But the resort/village does not do justice to the mountain. The village lacks charm and is not architecturally/aesthetically very pleasing. Rather, it is in the long French tradition of ‘usines à ski’, ski factories. But sadly, L2A does not do very well as a factory, either. The infrastructure is in many places outdated and the lift capacity is not sufficient for the crowds. As a result, you end up spending most of the time queueing for lifts, rather than actually skiing. Information on lifts operating/closed/scheduled to open is not conveniently available. Shuttles run very infrequently. So overall, a pretty lazy effort.
Having been fortunate enough to ski in 7 other resorts in France and more than 30 worldwide, we’re not in a hurry to come back to L2A until the structural issues have been addressed.

We are visiting Les Deux Alpes in March 2023 for my birthday. We are both first time skiers and dont plan on having any lessons before hand, would we need to buy a lift pass? I have read there are some free areas for beginners to use would this be sufficient enough? We would be pretty happy shuffling about by ourselves.
We don't really have the budget to fork out on ski schools and not really fussed on skiing all day every day as we want to explore the area and do plenty of no ski activities.

We are planning a trip to L2A at Easter. Can anyone tell me if you can use Diablo chair lift to get back down into the village or is it just the gondola/bubble lifts that take you down? Thanks.

Hello, it is quite possible to take the Diable chairlift to go back down to the resort. I would add that we recommend it to all average or beginner skiers as the snow cover is starting to be a bit tight at the bottom of the slopes.

We are looking at staying self catering as close to amenities as we can.
Looking for recommendations on which booking sites to use,
This will be over Christmas 2020

self catering option, Residence Odalys l'Ors Blanc, recommended for its location, cross the road to the slopes, a ski rental shop, the nearest bar/restaurant.
our apartment had a double bed, bunk beds & bed settees, swimming pool a bonus.we booked through Thomas cook, its an option on other sites..

Hi, is Les Deux Alpes good for beginners? Are the ski lifts/slopes close to the hotels? Thanks
Catherine M

Yes there are good beginner facilities. The beginner slopes run right next to the resort with ski schools down the full length of the resort. There are plenty of blue runs. The better skiing is on the glacier. Instructors will be able to point you in the direction of easier blue runs when you are ready to progress.

Hi, you can spend a little or a lot , nice reasonably priced restaurants and snack bars but also some pricey ones, take your pick.
I’m about to order a ski trip to L2A. I found a really good deal, but the trip is from the 30 of November to the 6 of December. My question is if there even is snow at that time a year.

It will definitely depend on your budget, but if you are OK with its cost, I would easily recommend the restaurant of Chalet Mounier. Food is extremely good and the wine list is nearly out of this world (if you are frightened by its thickness, just ask the sommelier ; he will be very accommodating and his advice is unusually precise).
Be sure to book ahead of time. It's usually quite tough getting a table during peak season, not even speaking of Xmas...
