‪A Jewel in the Field‬
יוני 2019
‪First, I'm glad that over the centuries they have not built near this small church and left it alone in the fields. St. Koloman (or St. Coloman) was an Irish pilgrim who was maytred on his way to the Holy Land in 1012. They are not sure when the first church was built in his memory, but it was originally Gothic architecture that was "remodeled" in Baroque after the Plague of 1634/35. In fact, those who died of the plague in the village (some estimates are around 300 or half of the population in the area) are buried in the church cemetary (look for the small walled area). Few guide books mention this fact. The church is more than worth a stop. It retains some of it's Gothic features, and the Baroque is early in style. You have to really plan ahead to see the interior, as it is open to the public for very limited hours only in the summers (check church website for hours) and during services (which would be really special to attend). And if you're there in October, they celebrate St. Coloman''s Day the second Sunday of October with a festival, procession and blessing of the horses. Remember, there are a lot of working horses who take tourist to castles and they deserve the blessing!‬

‪On October 14th, I found people in schwangau prepared the festival parade to this church. Many people come from all around and dressed traditional clothes. I saw beer garden and other fair around church. It's very interesting. I wish to participate if I had any time.‬

‪Stop for views of the valley, mountains and castles‬
לבד • אוק׳ 2017
‪You will drive by St. Koloman or Coloman's church on your way to Neuschwanstein. I'd encourage you to pull of, get out of your car and take a few pictures. You will be joined by weddings and others but early am offers less of a crowd. The valley surrounding the church is almost as spectacular as the mountains and castles.‬

‪A Simple church, stunning location and story of a martyr‬
חברים • מאי 2017
‪St. Koloman (Coloman) is one of the premier examples of Bavarian Baroque architecture that is complemented by its lonely setting in the middle of a field with the Tyrolian and Allgäu mountains as its backdrop. On top of this is has a fairytale view of Neuschwanstein Castle especially on a foggy day.
On tour guide stopped in the parking area and it was our good fortune that while peeking in the windows and taking pictures a church volunteer stopped by and open the church for us. The church was beautiful on the inside in its simplicity and beautiful decor. It is built in honor of St Coloman a missionary from Ireland whom on pilgrimage to Jerusalem was captured and falsely tried as spy on July 17, 1012. It is said his body showed no sign of decay and his blood healed the sick. He was canonized in1245 by Pope Innocent IV.‬

‪Потрясающе вписана в ландшафт / A wonderful part of landscape‬

//

I should say that we didn't enter the church. It's a wonderful piece of architecture for contemplators. The church is perfectly situated to be an integral part of the landscape. Standing on a perfectly plain meadow with the Alps on the background it look like a white pearl. It is beautiful any time, especially at sunrise or sunset.‬

‪Lovely church‬

‪A lovely little church which sat alone in the snow against a beautiful backdrop of the mountains. Just a great shame it wasn't open to see inside, we did peep through a window next to the door.‬

‪This little church you've probably seen on a calendar with Neuschwanstein in the background. Take time, even 10 minutes and you won't be disappointed !‬
