Dieppe is a port located in Northern France, 200 km north if Paris. Nested between cliffs, deep into the sea, it has a long history...From Vikings invaders to the 100 years wars in the middle ages until 19 August 1942 where 2000 Canadians troops died when they came ashore, Dieppe's past is vivid. It is a crosding port to UK, offers many activities...sports, a great outdoor swimming pool , premium golf course, excellent restaurants, affordable beds and breakfast. Not much animated at night, it still offers a Casino, and many restaurants. Try local seafood.

A small group of us walked from the harbour past the cafes, pubs, shops, churches, forts, memorials, until we hit the beach. All clean and tidy. An enjoyable walk along the street by the beach. Unfortunately, the beach is very stoney. You don't have to walk far to see a lot.

I was amazed with the beach
It’s all round rock!!
No sand
Warmer than I was expecting as well for October
Only two block walk to Main Street that has shops, Boulangeries and Brasseries

Nice beach, bring a sandal, bathrooms are open until 6:30pm if i recall properly. If you walk further down, there is a sand part. The best time to hit the beach is after 7pm as the water is warmer....

A fascinating place to spend a day whether on the beach or wandering the streets of the old town. Everywhere you look
there are memorials to the Canadian and other troops who died in the 1942 raid.

look forward to another visit to see castle and more of historic sites, both ancient and recent history. I usually get off boat and drive home, 800km south but enforced stay gave me new insight. Canadian visitors will find a city with historic links to Canada and huge gratitude to the Canadian forces who came to fight in WW2.

The ville is nice but I dare to say that it is a place not prepare for the Tourism. There are too many thing to improve. First and most important:
- How is possible, that they don't have a LUGGAGE SERVICE in ANYWHERE? When I left the hotel, I had the Ferry the next day at 19. I couldn't leave the luggage in the hotel, which I wasn't worry anought as I thought that I could leave in the train station (logical, right?) I was completely wrong. For my surprise, I couldn't find anywhere to leave my luggage and I had to carry with them until 19. I was quite shocking and I considered that like a "retardment".
When I went to the Tourism office and I asked for a keep luggage service, then they one girls (they were friendly), that If I go to the restaurant "The Brasserie", maybe If I have a lunch and I get an agree with them, I could leave my luggage there. WHAT? Is that a kind of mafia, connection or...? Totally incredible.
2. Trains. Quite expensive. SNCF. If you want to go to Rouen in the same day it is around 25€ a return ticket. It takes 1 hour. It is ok. But if you want to go to Paris in the same day, it takes two hours and they charge 68€. It could be cheaper if you find a right flight qith a lowcost company. In the sation, anybody spoke English (And most of the population in Dieppe). There are gift shops, train stations which connect with touristic places like Rouen, Caen, Paris... And the staff don't speak English neither. I understand that it is France and the official language is French. But if it a place that connect with England (Newhaven), and receive a lot of people from there, English should be spoken I think. It is not Russian, Japanese or arabic. It is English.
Just in the Tourism office and the Harbour, people could speak properly English. Thanks God I learnt some French long time and I could communicate.
People in Dieppe were nice and friendly and it is nice to visit (In one day you can visit it). But the high prices and the shocking surprise of not luggage service, made me a not positive experience.
Note: Some people say that it is expensive because of the Euro, it is France, wages are higher... I visited and travelled to Germany, and the prices were asequibles and you could use the train for travelling around all the region for 20€. Maybe I am wrong, but I would dare to say that Dieppe was abussive and there are too many thing to improve in the Tourism service.

Dieppe is a very interesting place for history lovers. The rocky beach and vertical cliffs are amazing to behold. The area tends to be cold and windy in winter so come prepared. If well dressed, this is a wonderful place.

We enjoyed our stay in the harbor city. The city is not big, but old center with its lovely food specialities has everything for a nice day trip. For those coming from Canada you should pay a visit to the old city gate from where in the period around 1631, 770 young women of the King where shipped of to Quebec.

So many people drive off the Newhaven ferry and belt out of town.
I have stayed here a few times now and always enjoy my visit.
This time the weather was particularly lousy but there was plenty to do with the castle museum and the excellent Sickert exhibition, the shopping area and a lovely walk along the seafront and out to the lighthouse for the bit where it didn't rain.
There is a cinema and an arts centre, great restaurants, and it's a wonderful place to stock up on food and wine.
There are many historic buildings and boards explaining what you are looking at.
The Canadian cemetery is poignant and moving.
Dieppe is a wonderful place to spend a few days and if you do want to take a day trip, Rouen is not far on the train and well worth a visit.
Dieppe is a vibrant and interesting place full of flowers in summer.
I look forward to returning.
