‪The library of books has been moved to Limerick (I think), and the building is locked up now. However, it still appears on the local heritage trail map.‬

‪The travel brochures still advertise the collection of books. They have been taken to more appropriate places for safe keeping away from the damp etc.‬

‪This very historic collection of books and manuscripts, was formed by Archbishop Bolton of Cashel in the 1700s. It was subsequently housed in the Library named after him in the grounds of the Church of Ireland cathedral of St John the Baptist, also in Cashel. I believe that it has recently been moved to Limerick University for safekeeping and study purposes. The Bolton Library is no therefore longer open to the public.‬

‪Bolton Library no longer in Cashel‬
עסקי • פבר׳ 2016
‪Regrettably, the Bolton Library is no longer housed in The Chapter House, Cashel
In February of this year the Library was transferred to the University of Limerick. This move was necessary, and essential, if this unique library and its irreplaceable contents were to be preserved.
The Chapter House, as a building, was never designed to house such rare books and manuscripts. The atmospheric conditions inside the building were such that the condition of the books, maps and manuscripts were deteriorating rapidly.
As custodians of this rare collection we had no choice but to avail of the library services at Limerick University, and for them to repair and restore the books, and house them in the correct conditions for it to eventually become what Archbishop Theophilus Bolton intended it to be……. a working library once again.
In co-operation with Tipperary County Council (and once the books are repaired) there is to be an interactive exhibition set up in Cashel which will tell the story of the Bolton Library, its connection to the Rock and the Palace, and which will see some of the books return to Cashel as part of that exhibition.

‪I love the Bolton Library - it has an amazing collection of books and weird and wonderful objects e.g. A coconut engraved and mounted in Silver which was a gift from Queen Elizabeth I, the smallest book in the world and books once own by the original Dracula and Catherine of Aragon to name but a few‬

‪Library has been moved!‬
משפחה • אפר׳ 2016
‪We arrived this afternoon excited to see important documents in such an intimate setting. We were surprised to find a note on the door informing visitors that the collection has been moved to the University of Limerick. Slightly disappointing for a moment, but of course it's necessary to protect the materials and give them the care they need. ‬

‪Well worth a visit! Would be amazing to see some funding into this place! The host was knowledgable and more than willing to spend a lot of time with us. The age of some of the artifacts here is astonishing. ‬

‪Well worth a visit‬

‪I can only concur with the very positive reviews of others. We arranged a time to visit with the Tourist Information Office, and found Martin, the curator and our guide, very knowledgeable, helpful and obviously proud of such a collection of rare books and manuscripts in a small town. Some of the graves around the cathedral are also worth a look, as are the 14th century town walls nearby.‬

‪Insightful visit by Fiona- shameful to see the building is falling pieces- people of Cashel DO SOMETHING!‬
לבד • יוני 2015
‪Had a really informative tour of the Bolton Library. Our guide, Fiona was a mind of knowledge. She was able to describe in great detail any of the many books on display and answered all questions clearly, patiently and informatively. Her passion for the library and its extensive range of antiquarian books was truly impressive. It's nothing short of a tragedy to see the cracks down the walls and across the ceilings. This building won't last another Irish winter. Please...someone do something and move these precious books into safekeeping before they are nothing but a pile of rubble.

Other than that, would highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in history/literature/archaeology. The adjoining church of St John the Baptist, burial ground and city walls with effigies intact are also well-worth the visit.‬

‪A priceless collection in serious danger‬
זוגות • יולי 2015
‪The viewing was a joy from start to finish for the enthusiasm of the curator alone. This gentleman has a huge responsibility (not only to the library but to the cathedral grounds too). His budget for this is as close to zero as makes no odds. The fabric of the building housing this priceless collection is itself in danger, not to mention the atmospheric conditions inside. This wonderful collection should be preserved in Cashel. Apparently there are other organizations with their eye on it, which might explain the lack of local funding - it may not be that sinister but one can read between the lines. Removal to a more protective environment may be good for the books but would be a tragedy for Cashel - although it must be said local interest is not high, which speaks volumes for the people of Cashel. The Rock obviously contributes more to the local coffers but this hidden gem only needs a bit more publicity to make its own contribution - and a serious injection of money, of course. That, I fear, is where the problem lies. Cashel is not a poor town, so the reason for this neglect is either down to ignorance (unlikely) or enlightened self-interest among those in whose power the means of funding lies. Go to see it soon and drop a few bob in the box. I fear it may be lost anyway, but anyone with an interest in books, history and literature should rattle a cage or two to try to keep this collection together where it belongs.‬
