‪Simply stunning‬

‪Its age. Its architecture. Its frescos. It has survived earrthquakes and war. The roof soars up on huge pillars (or possibly columns!) it is austere but awe inspiring.

Walk the stream alongside and behind it, to see the caves which are imagined to be tombs in the cliff. it is only possible to do this if you are willing to stepping stone the stream and can heave yourself up and down the banks.

There is a playground and it is a wedding venue.‬

‪Stunning in a beautiful setting‬

‪We visited the beautiful Abbazia di San Liberatore a Majella on a Sunday afternoon. I believe the Abbazia is open Saturday and Sunday for most months of the year except winter but in July and August it is open every day (possibly not Monday). We couldn't find opening times anywhere on the web! This is a really old Abbazia with parts of 13th century frescoes, sadly not much remains of them. It is a vast structure with what looks like a pulpit half way down it's length and to one side. Anyone know if this is a pulpit? The setting is really beautiful with very simple grounds but if you walk through the grounds you can follow a path down to the river and along. This is a stunning watercourse and they seem to be in the process of improving the paths alongside the river. There are pools to dabble your feet in which is so welcome in a really hot summer! Well worth a visit. Also brilliant views down the valley.‬

‪Kevin had great directions to help us do a great loop walk. Scenery was amazing especially down by the river.‬

‪The abbey itself is worth a visit, but if you take the path down to the the left of the Abbey, you'll reach the river, offering refreshing pools to swim, play and relax in. Children love it!‬
