After four or five visits to Serramonacesca I have at last found Torre Polegra. I am glad I made the trip. Be warned the route I took is not easy and walking boots or stout trainers are essential and on a hot day a water bottle is also a good idea. I parked at San Liberatore and followed the track at the back of the deer reserve. After about 1km you come to a stone bridge cross this and turn right ( This bridge can be reached by walking up the alento river gorge from the Abbey but is more difficult) Following the path after a short time there is a sign post, pointing left up into the trees to torre polegra and Roccamontepiano. I found this a very diffcult, steep and narrow climb for about 1Km and you get glimpses of the ruined tower on the cliffs above. when you reach the ruin the views from the plateau are wonderful looking toward the snow covered peak of Corno Grande and behind you to the ski fields of the Majella. My return journey is hard to describe but I was initially following the signs to Roccamontepiano but I manged to skirt across country to Garifoli and back to Serramonacesca

Quite a hike to get to on a hot summer day and a little challenging for us to find (we are definitely novices though!) But so glad we kept at it till we did! The views just from the grounds surrounding the Torre are so worth it! This is truely Gods country...magnificent!

Vorrei sapere il perché state facendo cadere a pezzi questa torre così bella non lo ristrutturate?

Pure io me lo domando...sarei pure disposto as accettare un restauro invasivo che la ricostruisca daccapo...ma che non venga dimenticata almeno! È il rimasuglio di uno storico villaggio militare, alla stessa maniera drl villaggio di San Iona presso Ovindoli....ma che parlo a fare è un rudere, quindi crolli pure, secondo l'ottica dei barbari della soprintendenza
