This was our first visit and we found it quite moving. It wasn't the monument to Cook that impressed us but the signage describing both Cook's achievement and also the heroic resistance to the invaders by two of the Indigenous inhabitants of the area. The area is still quite beautiful, despite the oil refineries and other development.

Haven't visited for a few years but think that the area is being well maintained & that it offers more then just the European viewpoint nowadays. You need to walk around and view the meeting point & read the displays & history. The actual landing spot is now complemented with the "Eyes of the Land & Sea" sculpture. Bones of a Whale carcass or a Ship? You judge! The actual Monument was erected in 1870 to celebrate the centenary of Cooks arrival & the meeting of the cultures. Something to be celebrated in my opinion & maintained appropriately for all to view & enjoy.

Given the significance of this place, it's definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. That said, I wouldn't make a special visit from the city centre. There's the main monument itself, as well as a number of smaller ones to other crew members of Cook's ship. There's an enjoyable short walk, with several information plaques.
Note, if visiting during Spring be wary of swopping birds - particularly around the large open grassy area near the visitor information centre.

This is probably one of the most referenced, yet equally poorly visited and presented, places in the European history of Australia. After making quite an effort to get there, we found one monument and a small plaque partly out in the water. This location, while out of the way, is pivotal in recent history, and to the histories of both those who came and those who were already here. It provides an opportunity to address many important issues associated with the European settlement of Australia and regardless of your views on the matter could feature more in the way of education and explanation. I'm glad I went, but I expected so much more.

A very nice place to walk, with stunning views of Botany Bay and gorgeous greenery. The park has a few monuments in tribute to Captain Cook and his botanist Sir Joseph Banks.
Whilst the area hasn’t seen much change in many years, it gives a special feeling. Just knowing you’re walking through a place with so much historic significance to Australia. You can picture the events that occurred there almost 250 years ago. Definitely worth visiting.

View where Captain Cook landed and have a picnic or BBQ in this beautiful national park. Plenty of bushwalking trails nearby along with whale watching about 2kms away in the park at Cape Solander. There is an information centre and there are coffee shops just outside the park along Silver Beach at Kurnell.

$8 for the car park and you then have informative walks with enough to give you a feel for what special events happened all that time ago. If you have a car its worth coming along especially during the whale watching season end of May til Aug, its only 1.8km up the road and we saw many in a couple of hours.

Stumbled upon a series of plaques and monuments to the original landing place of Captain James Cook and the HMS Endeavour crew. It is quite a picturesque spot looking over the cove to the oil refinery and the airport. This is also located in the national park.

The Dutch got to the West first but Lt. Cook and crew just beat the French under La Perouse to claim the land for King & Country. Nearly 250 years on the landing place is a little understated and hasn't seen many changes but does represent the foundation of modern Australia's history. Cook landed & claimed , Gov.Phillip & many others followed and made a Nation which today is Australia. I still enjoy to visit and see where modern Oz was commenced and it is a pleasant little area that can be enjoyed by all !!
