‪Semana Santa in Zamora is a really big deal but we were too early for it. Going to this museum you get to see sculptures that the walk thought the streets and appreciate their quality and importance. Each one represents a different part of the story and this combined with the history of Semana Santa gives a great insight into the religious culture in Spain
Well worth a visit!

‪Amazing exhibition of Easter altars made by local sculptors over centuries. Grab a free audio guide on your way in, we were very impressed.‬

‪This was well worth the visit - very good audio tour of the actual procession floats plus videos of the processions from holy week.‬

‪4€ pp ( adult) plus 1€ if you wish to take photos. They give you a stick-on badge.
We were in for 90mins. & had the attendant change the DVD to English although the language was somewhat sugary and effusive.
Would recommend to any visitor.‬

‪The museum houses the processional vehicles and statues carried through the town at Easter by the faithful. The collection describes the whole story from Pilate through to the deposition, each cart holding one tableau to illustrate the theme. They range in size from large to very large and must weigh a great deal. There are also scenes of Palm Sunday and the Last Supper. This is not art, although the figures and scenes are of very high quality, they are meant to illustrate the story of the crucifixion in a way that the faithful can identify with. I have no particular faith but as I progressed through the museum I found myself increasingly moved by the very humanity that was represented. some people find these scary, there are figures in the robes with pointed hoods, but that really just adds to the power. Highly recommended.‬

‪OK, I'm a Protestant. So the processions during Semana Santa are not my usual cup of tea. But preciously for this reason, I found this museum very interesting. So did the rest of the family.‬
