‪We went to Kemeri on April 30th. We took the train from Riga (it was a modern train with free WiFi) to Kemeri station. The station is in very poor condition, there is no info point. On google maps we searched for "Kemeri bog board walk tower" and followed the directions. We walked all the way there, it took us approx. 45 minutes to reach the starting point of the trail (big parking lot). It was an easy walk, the only tricky part is crossing the main road. The GPS directions are clear and easy to follow. The bog walk is clearly marked and there are information boards on the path. You can choose the longer or shorter loop. On our way back to town on foot, a kind Polish man offered us a ride back to the main road and saved us 4km of walking. Thank you, Polish man! 💝 A side note about Kemeri itself: On our way back we walked around town and were shocked! The town was empty, there was no one around except a few road workers. Many buildings were delapidated, part of the town looked like an abandoned ghost town but in between there were a new -looking school and kindergarten (we saw no children and it was 1pm on a school day). We didn't know what to think, but then we reached a beautiful park, fit for a capital city (modern playground for children, many benches, paths, sign posts, gardners...). We walked around a bit and then we found an info point in the water tower. The lady there was very nice, spoke exellent English and was very happy to explain things. We asked her about there being no people around, she told us that weekdays are usually quieter and weekends busier. We decited to believe her, because we could find no other explanation for the vibe of the town😬. On our way back the ticket office was closed so we payed for the tickets on the train. This time, it was an old school train. We recommend the bog walk, it was really beautiful and a nice change from the crowded Riga. ‬

‪Daytrip from Riga to Kemeri Bog‬
5.0 מתוך 5 בועות‪יולי 2023‬
‪Daytrip from Riga to Kemeri Bog We took a morning train (09:30) from Riga to Kemeri. The journey takes a bit less as an hour. After arriving at Kemeri station, we had to cross the railway (to the opposite side of the station building), and than follow the paved road to a radio tower on the right side on the road. Turn right near the tower, there is a path into the forest. There were lot of mosquitos in the forest, we could’nt stop to take a foto or so. The path leads to a main road, be carefull if you cross it. On the other side there is a cemetery, you have to walk on a paved road near it. This road ends where the hiking trail begins. There is a car park, toilets and a small information office, which was closed during our visit. There isn’t an entrance fee. After entering the national park, you have to walk a couple of hundred meters, and than you can choose from two options of trails, a shorter (1,5 km) and a longer (3,5 km) option. The forrest is very nice, in summer there were lot of blueberries in the forrest. We could collect lot of berries, and we have made a fine berry-cake at home in the evening. We took the longer option of the walk, the boardwalk leads near the watchtower. The view is beautiful from the tower to the bog landskape and to the small lakes. Usage of a drone is forbidden in the park, but a stupid couple used it, and disturbed the silence, the birds and the other tourists. The walk ends where it begins: in the parking lot. The trail back to Kemeri is the same. It’s a long walk but worth to do it. We took a train at 15:30 back to Riga. ‬

‪Caught the train from Bulduri to Kemeri €1 approx 25 minutes
Read reviews saying about very poor sign posted !
When we got to the front of the station it was very well signed as long as you know it’s the boardwalk
It’s about a 40 minute walk from the station to it
Follow the cut through there is a sign post ! Go to main road beware it is very quick
Past the grave yard and your in the right direction keep going
The walk is on 3 planks which were being repaired as we were their
Not really wheelchair friendly but people in a wheelchair will have a go at me if your a adventurous wheelchair user go for it
For a national park we saw very few birds and animals and insects
10 birds total 5 dragon flies a few beetles and a grass hopper
But the swamp was vast and a good walk‬

‪Definitely worth the hour's train journey from Riga but it's pitifully underdeveloped. The train station is derelict, no info board, no transport to the park or the bog walk which is an hour's walk away....you have to know about the short cut through the forest because it's not signposted....involves crossing a high-speed road with hulking juggernauts zooming past...no shops, no cafés on the way or at the bog, nothing. I also did the Green Dune hike, but again it would have been much more reassuring if at the half way point where there was a fork in the path there were some explanation of which way to go...in English. The park could be developed into a real tourist attraction but feels like a forgotten backwater.‬

‪Make sure you put the right place in your navigator as there are no clear road signs. Once arrived - very convenient walk inside a beautiful scenery. ‬

‪The information kiosk in the parking lot near the trailhead is manned by a person who does not speak any English and has no English information.

More importantly, if you take the train to the Kemeri station, you will find that the station is unmanned. And, there is no information. You are faced with the choice of walking 4 km to the bog trail or 2.2 in the opposite direction to an information center. I was told by the Riga TI that I could rent a bicycle next to the train station. Not true. No bicycles are available unless prearranged.

I walked to the bog trail where you have a choice of two loop trails. I took the shorter one which is 1.5 km. From the train station to the bog trail around and back to the train station was almost 6 miles exactly.

The trails are on a boardwalk. Many of the boards are rotten so you have to continually look at your feet rather than the scenery. One sign in English said that a two-story house could sink into the box with no visible signs afterwards.

TAKE INSECT REPELLENT.‬

‪Nice 3,4 km walk in the swamp area. A little bit tricky to find, we followed first Google Map’s instructions to the Kemeri National Park and that took us to a totally wrong place. Important to navigate to Kamari Swamps.
Take water with you, they don’t sell anything at the parking area. The parking costed 2 euro.‬

‪A masterclass in getting it right in nature. The Latvian countryside at Kemeri National Park is truly spectacular.

If visiting Riga and would lije a cheap day out, tgen visit this natural beauty. A 1 hour train trip from Riga for about 4 euros takes you to the Kemeri National park.

The wetland wilderness is an essential part of any trip to Latvia. The board walk through the bogs/wetland is a trip to happiness and quiet.

Worth a look when in Riga. ‬

‪From the car park to the actual trail, it is simply spectacular. This is definitely something that must be done by all who visit Latvia. ‬

‪Located at the outskirts of Jurmala, this is a nice 5 km dry walk on the boards around the bog. Easy to park the car and walk with kids.‬
