The day tour was rich in history and culture. The guide is very experienced and speaks perfect English. We visited several places where I would never go if I self-tour the city.

We have used VSL for airport transfers and hotel accommodations for many years. During a recent visit to Sierra Leone we finally had time to try out one of their tours.
We booked the day trip to Banana Island.
Everything was very well done. Our guide was prompt, pleasant and knowledgeable. The boat ride to the island was authentic but safe. The walking tour was interesting and the lunch was delicious.
Definitely recommend not only this tour but VSL in general. They are a well-run company who has always taken great care of us.

Prior to coming to SL had reached out to VSL. They responded to all questions very quickly and professionally.
Tour in SL was excellent: Freetown, Tacugama, Makeni (loved the market), Rogbonko, Dublin/Banana Islands, Tokeh beach: Really worth the trip. Abdulai is an excellent guide, very dedicated, organized and knowledgeable. Said us a great driver, always felt safe whatever the road conditions. Great team to travel with.
Definitely recommend to travel with VSL

VSL arranged a 5-day-trip through S.L. for me (airport transfers by seacoach, Freetown city tour, 2 nights on Tiwai islands and 1 night on Dublin/Banana-Islands).
Everything was well organized, my guide was very knowledgeable and helpful, my driver did a very good job both in hectic Freetown and on the excellent roads (compared to most other W.-African countries) in interior S.L.
They answered my emails rapidly and accepted a split payment for their services
(60% in advance, 40% cash on arrival).
I 'd definitely recommend VSL as a S.L. tour operator.
Everything was well organized, my guide was very knowledgeable and helpful, my driver did a very good job both in hectic Freetown and on the excellent roads (compared to most other W.-African countries) in interior S.L.

We had a guide from VSL for a couple of days showing us around Freetown and the peninsula. He was great, very knowledgeable and helpful, he made us feel very welcome in his city. Would recommend using this company!

Overall VSL appeared to us to be an efficient, fair, competent and customer- focussed organisation. VSL arranged a week's tour for four of us, whose primary goal was peak bagging ( hiking). Mucturu responded quickly to our questions and arranged what we requested. Alex was our excellent guide and Idrissa our competent Landcruiser driver. We made a successful two day ascent of Bintumani, the Sierra Leone Highpoint, aided by a local guide and porters. Unfortunately, we were unable to negotiate an ascent of the Tingi Hills Highpoint with local headmen, but we knew this was not guaranteed and VSL supported us well, and got us to the trailhead along a rough road. VSL was then very flexible in rearranging our trip in line with our preferences, which included Banana Island, Picket Hill, Leicester Peak and transportation.

We booked our tour with another organizer that subcontracted VSL for the Sierra Leone part of the trip. It was a total disaster from start to end.
- Our pre-arranged pick up at the Guinea-Sierra Leone border was 2 hours late. Not sure where the communication broke down but sitting and waiting at the border at 6:40AM isn’t the best experience in this part of the world
- Our driver was obnoxious and shouted at the traffic non-stop
- Our guide attempted to give us information throughout our two days in Freetown but had such a strong accent that we could barely understand a word he said. I have interacted with around 30-40 locals during the stay in Freetown, from longer conversations to just a few words here and there and did not have this issue with anyone else. That said, he was very good with history and knew all the relevant dates, but again, it was mostly incomprehensible. It’s very unfortunate because he did indeed seem quite knowledgeable
- The biggest issue was our airport transfer with a “sea coach” which was a small boat not at all suited to cross open waters. We were completely soaked and all of our luggage was wet including electronics.
Please note that this isn’t a complaint about a minor inconvenience or nuisance value but an actual safety risk! The boat was close to flipping over on several occasions. The distance between the two shores are well over 5 miles and not exactly swimmable.
The only good thing I can mention is that they were fast to respond to messages and swiftly adjusted our agenda to include the chimpanzee sanctuary in our itinerary.
In summary if you value your life and health I recommend staying far away from VSL or at least avoid the airport transfer they put together.

We had a very good experience with VSL as tour operator for a 3 + 2 night trip through the southeastern part of Sierra Leone.
Pre-planning went smoothly and our driver and guide were both excellent.
Careful and skilled driving on bad roads and knowledgeable and caring guidance.
Not to mention really good and enjoyable travel companions, thank you, Johnny "B Goode" and Kamara for a great road trip.
Our best recommendations.

Had a great time doing the pickett hill hike outside Freetown. Was very esay to communicate with VSL via email and the guide in the morning called on arrival, we left Freetown around 7 to start at 830 am. The hike itself was generally well marked, and medium difficulty though definitely the heat picks up throughout the day. The tour included transfer to/from my accommodations in an air condition car, and my tour guide Bassie explainedthe significance of many of the places we passed as we were driving.
I also did a day trip to the Banana Islands with VSL which was great. Beautiful secluded island with an important history as part of the slave trade. Had a big lunch at Bafa resort and swam in the bay off the resort. They also had water activities you could buy at the resort such as a snorkeling trip, spearfishing, kayaking, etc.
Overall had a great time, guide was very knowledgeable about the history, and was quite easy the organize the tours. They were very flexible around timing and what I wanted to do. Would definitely recommend.

I recently had a one week Christmas vacation in Sierra Leone from 22-29th Dec 2019 handled by VSL Travels.
My family was impressed with vacation arrangement from the day of our arrival at the airport to the day we left Freetown. The hotel and food was excellent, the tours impressive and educative and most especially our stay in Banana Island is associated with a wonderful memory that we will not forget for a long time to come. The package was indeed family friendly.
I will also want to inform you that our tour guide was so much enthusiastic and proud of his work. He knows what to do at the right time. The entire family concluded that on our departure day that the tour guide provided for us is truly a professional tour agent.
In sum, we enjoyed every moment in Sierra Leone with its warm and friendly people. Looking forward to come back in the nearest future.
