A very nice temple discovered by incident while visiting the city. The place is very nice and specially peaceful. We really enjoyed it.

This complex is one the most stunning I've seen in Chiang Mai. The architecture and colours are amazing, and the number of different monuments and details makes really an impression. Definitely worth seeing!

We were on a walking tour in the old city, and stumbled, on this temple while walking from Wat Chiang Man to Wat Lok Moli. It was about 600 meters away from Wat Chiang Man. Entrance was free.
Once we were within the compound, we realise that this was a hidden gem, with a beautiful and well decorated temple. The Viharn was beautifully with a three-tier roof and the steps guarded by naga. The smaller Viharn, on the left, had a sitting Buddha. The Ubosot steps were also guarded by naga and two guards standing on either side of the door. In contrast the chedi looked old. There were bell-towers, which were also highly decorated.
However, we could not enter any of the buildings as it was lock. The weather was hot, therefore best to carry a hat, sunblock and water with you. We spent about 30 minutes to look around in the compound and capture some pictures. This place is a ‘must visit’ in Chiang Mai.

Little known temple just off the main road near the north Gate, you would hardly know there was a temple here. We were the only people there apart from the monks. Really colourful and impressive and free entry. Well worth a look.

Wat Saen Muang Ma Luang is also known as Wat Hua Khwuang. It is situated on the north side of the inner city. It is a beautiful Burmese style temple. You can see elegant Burmese decorations here. There are two black elephants and some snakes outside the Ubosot of the temple.

One of the temples worth mentioning is Wat Saen Muang Ma Luang . ( also called Wat Hua Khuang) There are no less than 300 temples, (Wats), with over 120 temples within the city walls so it is important to prioritize your visit. . Among so many old buildings, there are those who stand out from the others, either by their particular structure or by their historye.. You need to spend a good amount of time to see quite a few. and walking between sites is tiring in the Thai heat ..Wat Saen Muang Ma Luang complex is another magnificent temple , hidden away in the middle of the Old City , open to visitors at limited or irregular hours.
.Several buildings are new including the ho trai, the ubosot (which replaced the old ho trai) and an impressive administrative building with the finest Buddhist decorative themes. The wonderful brick chedi looks very old and is crumbling.
The principal viharn . guarded by fierce looking naga draped over the balustrades.
. Hanging from the pediment were three Lanna style lanterns. At the main entrance , red doors are decorated with fine gilt figures of the Hindu God Indra with trident riding the Erewan. The door frame and arch over the door known as Sum Khang are covered in rich guilt arabesque patterns . The viharn is very impressive with a three tier roof, The windows are richly decorated with animals from the zodiac and there is a life-size and realistic looking elephant statue near the entrance.
There are three very impressive ho rakangs ( bell-towers )
This is a Burmese temple with beautiful images and interior in a building to the back of the old brick chedi. Two large elephants and naga's form the entrance temple.
One of the best temple complexes in Chiang Mai . A must to see . Free entry

You would be awed and surprised after entering the unnoticeable gate and walk a simple road. It is so beautiful and photogenic whatever angle you are looking. Multi-tier rooftops bright yet coordinated colors. Very impressive!

This is one of the prettiest Wats I've seen. I believe it is a "working" Wat as there were many Monks on the grounds. Unfortunately, all the building were closed.

This is a beautiful temple compound half-hidden in a small lane near Chang Puak Gate. The conical brick chedi in the back is quite old, but the rest of the compound buildings are relatively new. Wat Saen Muang Ma Luang is a Burmese temple, and the resident monks wear red robes, but the viharns and ordination hall are built in the classic Lanna style of multiple tiered roofs with gold trimmed edges.
What makes this temple worth an extended look is its exterior wall decorations. Wonderful paintings may grace the window shutters, but even more interesting are the small relief sculptures of weird hybrid creatures that come from Himmapan Forest, at the foot of Mt. Meru, the mythical center of the universe. The menagerie depicted in decorative strips includes an elephant-headed horse, crocodile-headed flying horse, naga-headed bird, dog-headed fish, dragon-headed horse, half-man and half-bird or half-deer, a local version of a centaur and two kinds of mermaids, one winged. It’s like a tour of the Buddhist imagination.

We have visited this temple before but could not get the name. This year we asked two monks to translate for us.It is a very quite complex with very few tourists as it is just off the main road.
The buildings are very ornate with many new statues still covered up.The main hall is not open to see but I expect it could be really special..
It is just past the Thai airline office on the other side of the road through a small entrance, but worth seeing
