‪A unique spot where the sea meets the backwaters and an estuary is created. A place one can enjoy both the sea and the backwaters. The mangrove forest ride was awesome with plenty of birds to watch.‬

‪The island and the boatride is really worth visiting no matter what people say. The sights are beautiful and cannot be found during the backwater shikara in Alleppey (which was otherwise our assumption).
They, however, quote a very high amount for 1.5 hrs to 2 hrs boatride. One should negotiate and bring down the price. We covered everything they mentioned in the 'package' within 1.5 hours itself and paid 2.2k.‬

‪Poovar Island is located near the confluence of the Neyyar river and the Arabian Sea. This Island is a small island bordered by backwaters.
The specialty of- Poovar Island is this is the area where you can see River, Lake and Arabian Sea together. Neyyar river which ends its flow at the Arabian Sea, becomes wider and it appears to be a Lake. Poovar beach starts where the backwater ends. Poovar was a major port during the Chola dynasty.

Interesting facts about Poovar Island:
1. This island was once known as Pokkumoosapuram, later named as Poovar by Marthanda Varma. Poovar meaning is "Stream of Flowers".
2. The land with golden sand offers spectacular views of the backwater formations and is great picnic spot.
3. A boat trip around this Island is a thrilling experience that can be life time memory. The Boat journey will take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours to cover backwater trip, which accommodate 6-8 members/ Average cost of these private operated boat is 3000 INR for one boat. Rates will fluctuate based on Season and Demand.
4. Poovar is undoubtedly a paradise for those seeking peace and solitude and is also one of the best honeymoon location in Kerala state.
5. Poovar is renowned for its lush mangrove forests. Try Back water Boat ride here to explore dense Mangrove Forest. its life time thrill to have boat ride inside this dense forest.
6. End your day in Poovar with a sunset cruise on the backwaters. The sunset here including birds, Crabs, and other wildlife is a sight to behold.‬

‪Poovar island is a must stay place. I booked floating cottage and it was amazing and beautiful. Had a great view of sunset. The place is beautiful and service was really good. Food was amazing....the ambiance, location and all was nice....
The best thing I liked was the thought of sustainability they had. They are actually promoting sustainability‬
