‪Very nice to see the culture.‬

‪It was a nice location of Jericho to look at what they had to offer for the history of the West Bank. The site is located near the lower plains of Jordan. It’s about 250 m below sea level. I would go and take a look just to see how history has been preserved.‬

‪See the world's oldest continually inhabited city‬
דצמ׳ 2019
‪So this is where civilisation as we know it really began. Excavations have revealed multiple occupancy of 10,000 years plus. There isn't much to see but it is certainly worth visiting the world's oldest continually inhabited city and also the worlds lowest city.‬

‪Old City - Great History‬
ספט׳ 2019
‪The oldest city is really interesting. According to the Bible the walls came down after the Israelites marched around the city for days and then stomped and blew trumpets. Archeology shows that the walls fell down and created nice ramps along three sides of the city whereby the Israelites could easily come in a conquer the city.‬

‪Visited on a tour‬
אוק׳ 2019
‪I came here with a tour group at the end of October. The best part of this trip was the bus ride through the Judean Desert, which was unreal. The site itself was interesting, but I recommend taking the cable car up to the monastery if you don't have much time in Jericho. It was unreal to be in the oldest city on Earth, yes, but this site itself doesn't require a ton of time.‬

‪As tels go - one of the least interesting in Israel‬
אוק׳ 2019
‪I did not expect to see too much as Jericho is largely a mud Brick dig of a tel and they erode quickly once exposed. Jericho is very old. The walls demolished by Joshua cannot be verified and it is believed he was somewhere else.
Very dirty, dry and dusty is our Jericho of today, in the occupied Palestine territories.
The massive tower base on the site is the highlight and is pre pottery neolithic - around 8000 BC. It is one of the earliest stone structures of mankind. It appears to have served an astronomical rather than a military purpose.‬

‪Scam alert - unreasonable tour guide!‬
חברים • נוב׳ 2019
‪After an enjoyable visit of the Mount of Temptation, we crossed the street to the Ancient City site. Upon paying a 10 NIS admission each for the four of us, we were told to follow an old guide who was standing near the entrance - we did not request his service but he started following us and took it upon himself to be our guide. A minute later he asked, “How much will you pay me?” We we’re surprised and asked him how much he usually charged, but he kept asking us what we thought would be the right amount. We decided not to continue the useless dialogue and kept walking to the first stopping point.

This guide proceeded to tell us what was already explained on the display. We saw the whole site consisting of nothing more than earthy foundations (we were also annoyed by this guide’s lack of professionalism) and decided to cut the visit short. On the way back, he started pressing for his fee, and hinted that we were rich so we should pay him well. When we suggested 20 NIS for his 5 minutes worth of time, he stopped and gestured dramatically, “This is NOTHING!” He pulled out a wad of US bills to exaggerate his “worth” and refused to take our offer. We were disgusted by him and decided to just leave, when he seemed to have changed his mind and asked for the 20 NIS. Upon receiving it, though, he dramatically tore the bill in half in front of us. We just shook our heads in disbelief and left, leaving him babbling verbal insults at us.

What we want everyone to know is, 1) This site is perhaps very ancient, but the information behind is not that deep, and much of it already explained on the posted display boards. You do not need a guide. 2) If you’re interested in hiring a guide, settle on the price first. Do not allow the ambiguity of price to be exploited by a professional extortionist like this guide we met. 3) The whole site is understandably dusty, and fully exposed under the sun with no shades, which makes it hard to linger around on a sunny day, even in November.

Jericho is worth a visit, with several historically significant sites that we enjoyed - don’t let our story stop you from visiting. Just watch out when you sense a strange feeling of uneasiness!‬

‪Good to actually see what was here and to set eyes on part of the original city that is claimed to be the oldest continually inhabited city in the world. Nothing spectacular when you compare it to the Roman ruins of Bethshan but still interesting. ‬

‪There really isn't that much to see. Yes, there was a city here once, but all that is left is the bottom couple feet of walls. Not very exciting.‬

‪Amazing feeling to be able to see a city that is over 10,000 years old. It doesn't matter if you don't believe the bible writings , it is still worthwhile visiting the oldest continually inhabited city on earth.‬

‪Insist on seeing the video‬
משפחה • אוג׳ 2019
‪For someone who is not akin with archeology the site did not look like much with two or three biggish holes and some rocks. However, the pre-entry video sheds some light on what is on display. The history is remarkable, but not presented very well. I would suggest some pre-reading before you visit. ‬
