‪More to it Than the Aircraft at the Gates‬
ספט׳ 2019
‪There is more to this place than the aircraft at the North and West Gates. If you do not have base access, than you will not be able to enter the base to go visit the actual museum. They are planning (in the process) to move their main buildings/hangar out to the West Gate, near Rosamond, CA. They are also slowly adding to their displays, as they are renovating other aircraft via volunteers, in their spare/free time. Non-base access people can sign up for a base tour, which includes a hour or two visit to the main part of the museum and to the Armstrong NASA Facility (and their "museum"). The base tour starts/finishes at "Century Circle," at the West/Rosamond Gate.‬

‪Very cool lots of interesting test flight history, being prior active duty Air Force I as well as my kids really enjoyed the visit. No cost they run on donations. Gentleman approached us with stories and asked if we had any questions, he was very informative and friendly.‬

‪Ultimate Plane Spotter Experience‬
זוגות • מאי 2017
‪A once a month tour is available. It must be pre-booked many months in advance as the bus tour is only for approximately 40 people. It is a working facility so unfortunately once on the bus unable to get off. Understandable due to potential security risks. The bus drives by the runway and around many of the various outbuildings. We saw many fighter planes being worked on, tested and also landing and taking off. Zappa was a great tour guide. He was very knowledgeable due to him being a former serving pilot. The meeting place has many of the F class planes and we also saw a Blackbird which was a bonus. The only downside is that these planes are out in the desert and are also being used a homes by the local birds. The hope is to open a bigger and better museum which hopefully can do these planes justice.‬

‪Continuing our road trip, Bakersfield to Big Bear Lake, out in the Mojave desert we could see the 'bone yard' tails for unused old aircraft stored in the desert, then we came across the Edwards Air Force Base, made a museum quick stop, the B52 bomber at the gate is impressive, but small by today's standards, but has an impressive history with NASA.‬

‪Fascinating perspective of the Air Force‬
חברים • נוב׳ 2016
‪Fascinating perspective of the Air Force. Area 51 is not accessible. Edwards offers an insight of what might be going on in the Nevada desert. What a range of weopanry and views of the devanstrating tools of destruction.

Still, the planes are interesting and the connection to the Space Shuttle and NASA was terrific.

Overall, a great day.‬

‪Air Force at it best‬
זוגות • נוב׳ 2016
‪Only do tours once a month for about 40 people so must make reservations months in advance. This is where almost all Air Force planes have been tested for the last 80 years or more. Didn't realize what a gem of a tour this would be. Highly recommend for any plane buff. Not only do they have Air Force plane tested but also commercial ones too.‬

‪Great Tour‬
חברים • אוק׳ 2016
‪The general public tour is offered once a month and you must make a reservation. I believe other tours for groups can be arranged by planning ahead.
You report to the check-in building outside of the gate to the base. You then board a bus to first clear security, enter the base, and then for the tour.
Our docent was just about as knowledgeable was anyone could have been. Before retiring he was an Air Force photographer and had seen just about everything there was to see in his 30 years there. It made for a great tour. Along with his knowledge he had a great sense of humor.
The tour is long, about 3 ½ hours and is well worth the time. The day we were there we were allowed into a hangar that housed two aircraft that were going to the museum. One was one of the first jets and the other was one of those weird-looking stealth fighters with all those angles to avoid radar. There were two guys from the museum answering questions. A world of information from those two guys.
The tour does encompass the flight line. According to the docent, there wasn’t too much scheduled that day but we did see a B-1 take off and as well as several of the new F-35s taxiing and taking off. There was also a tanker that came and went. All-in-all enough was happening to make the tour very interesting.
You pretty much get see the whole base. The tour ends at the museum where a talk on the history of the base and the museum is offered. There are about 20 planes on display, mostly outdated of course but that is what museums are about, old stuff.
We thought it was a great day and a great tour. The museum is expanding to a new facility that will be built outside of the base and will be accessible to the public without having to enter Edwards Air Force Base.
You will learn the history of the base and many of pilots and planes tested and flown here.
All-in-all a great tour.‬

‪Up Close and Personal on an Operational Airforce Base‬

‪Edwards were only running 1 tour a month but it is essential to pre book. As it is working base there is a fair bit of security you need to get through but nothing unexpected. We bused onto the base our guide was a Lt Col (retired) but now responsible for PR. An excellent and informative 3+ hours. You cannot take backpacks / cameras etc onto the base. Water is ok.‬

‪Flight test history under one "roof"‬
נוב׳ 2015
‪Beautiful artifacts and special aircraft on display. Most of the aircraft are in good shape. They are working on the B52. On base there are more airplanes on display. Not part of the museum but interesting to see them too. (Especially on south base) I hope the museum will be able to move to a more accessible (for general public) location off base but where you still can enjoy some of the local flying activities.‬
