‪First time in Gavdos and we put our tents in Sarakiniko like many other people do. Behind the beach there is plenty of space under trees and behind bushes, so always shade!!
You find about 10-12 restaurants serving all tasty local cuisine, never loud music, sometimes small live music.
Sandy beach, clean waters.
I def recommend to stay there, since you can either camp or rent a room‬

‪Fantastic beach and location!!‬

‪Sarakiniko is a big sandy beach one of the main destinations in Gavdos island.
During the summer there are hundreds of campers station over there. It is considered to be a naturist beach as well but in a lower grade since the majority enjoy the sea dressed.
In Sarakiniko there are plenty of tavernas and snack bars that are open during day and night. Generally the tavernas are not considered to be working under high standards. Most of them are low quality. I don't mention names but i let this for you to judge.
The water in the beach was perfect and in specific spots is suitable for snorkelling.
Close ot the beach there are rooms to let and a small mini market where you can buy in reasonable prices food and drinks.
Generally i believe it's a good place to camp but usually it's too crowdy and there is a lot of noise as well.
It's fantastic to spend time for swimming and having a drink in a bar later on.
I believe it's a MUST destination in gavdos and everybody must experience Sarakiniko.‬

‪We had two week here and loved the beach and the swimming. The place was quite busy when we arrived but by the time we left was really slowing down.
There is some accommodation and It’s fine that people camp wild there but I feel angry about the fact that when they leave some just walk away leaving their rubbish and tent.
What is worse is the rubbish dump just behind the village. Something needs to be done otherwise there will be a real problem with flies and vermin. I have written to the Mayor about this.
Seems to me the island should apply for a European Environmental Grant and create employment for several people to sort and recycle plus incinerate, compost etc. It is really tragic to see this wonderful place being despoiled with not recycling facility. Especially a problem as there is no drinking water so it comes in plastic bottles, thousands of them piled and unsorted with general refuse. ‬

‪This is one of the most entrancing beaches on the charming and historical island of Gavdos. The sand is soft and golden, the water clear and inviting, the shallowly shelving beach makes the water suitable for all bathers including children. However venture back from the beach a mere 100 metres and you come across a disgusting rubbish dump, swarming with flies. The litter has clearly been festering there for many months and is a shocking experience for the unprepared traveller.

Further inland in the area of Metochi near the island's generator plant, there is a huge rubbish dump. Flies and rats are becoming a problem on Gavdos. Surely the local government of Chania must be aware that this disgraceful lack of waste disposal provision poses a major threat to public health and the environment?‬
