‪Quite Disappointing‬
חברים • יולי 2021
‪I was so disappointed by this place. I love gardens and Japanese culture and was looking forward to the visit, but the Hammond was not what I expected at all. The garden was overgrown, somewhat shabby, and poorly maintained; there needs to be definite weeding done, even in the parking lot. The museum is limited and there is really not much to see. Add in the fact that the Hammond is in a really out of the way location and it’s almost not worth the visit. It took me an hour to get here and I wanted to leave after five minutes. The only positive was that admission was free the day I went so I didn’t have to pay to spend time here. I don’t recommend it.‬

‪Very disappointed as we had looked forward to the visit. Little to see in the museum and the garden area was poorly maintained. Overgrown and no flowers. Overall feeling of lack of attention and not worth the price.‬

‪Strolling in the Garden‬

‪A nice visit but it was shortened because it was so hot and humid out. Many areas had shade and benches to rest. The museum was small but had interesting pieces. A great gift shop!‬

‪Walked through too quickly - plan to spend more time‬
ספט׳ 2019
‪Plan to spend at least an hour here - and read the descriptions in the paper guide/map provided to you upon arrival so you can truly appreciate what is there. I walked through too quickly - just seeing what was in front of me. I did not know the significance of the landscape design until I read the literature the next day. There is a $5 fee per person. Plenty of parking. Bring a snack or lunch since there are tables and chairs to sit on in a designated area. While most of the plants/trees are green, it's still a great location for photography. ‬

‪Great little garden ‬

‪Visited this Japanese stroll garden with my husband. The garden is relatively easy to find and beautiful. Admission was 5 dollars . You get a map of the garden and are also able to walk around and check out some art pieces in the main building. There are some art pieces in the actual Garden as well. We got there around midday on a weekday and It took us about an hour to stroll the whole garden (which we practically had to ourselves) Overall the garden is peaceful and serene - great for some meditation, relaxation & photography. Wear comfortable shoes as the paths are rocky , moist, or grassy. Would recommend . ‬

‪The Hammond Garden is beautifully planned, an easy stroll through a tiny Zen-inspired space that varies between groomed and comfortably disheveled. It’s a sort of walking meditation. I always leave feeling refreshed and happy.‬

‪Japanese oasis in North Salem‬

‪The Hammond Museum has been part of our recreational activities since our children were toddlers. WE were drawn to it for the first time for the Blessing of the Animals where any type of animal is welcome with owner There was a terrific Scottish bag piper who kept the atmosphere special on a special occasion. Moon Viewing in August is a delightful event.
Very special years ago was an art exhibit open to all North Salem (and some area) artists without a jury selection. Lifetime friendships were formed. Every room at the museum was hung from floor to ceiling and was a meeting event for much of the artist and public communities. There was a bird house design competition followed by an auction fundraiser of all the houses
.
Our son reveled in trying to catch the huge bullfrogs in a garden pond. The garden is the gem of the museum and all trees are labelled-- selection was varied and vast for a small museum in the country. There are event brunches like one for Mother's Day and the restaurant's caterers were excellent. The garden changes with each season of the year and each season has its own botanical attractions or spectacular views

I am out of touch with exactly what is happening at the museum at the moment but the garden is a 5 star visit.‬

‪Relaxing, small garden‬
לבד • אוק׳ 2017
‪Not knowing what to expect I drove about an hour to get there. This was in early fall which made some parts interesting but obviously not prime time.

This garden is much smaller than I expected. I would recommend it for people already in the area, not as a final destination. It is wonderful for walking and contemplation. It is affordable enough for locals to visit often.‬

‪A lovely afternoon in tranquility‬
זוגות • אוג׳ 2017
‪The museum is open from 12 to 4,so plan accordingly. It is small in comparison to big city museums, but it is perfectly delightful. There are art displays from local artists and the museum is very active in sponsoring these artists from the community. There was even a table done by an Eagle Scout who is building a life size chess set with the Knight on display. The garden is so tranquil and you can stroll at your leisure. The map which is included with your admission fee ($5 adult,$4 for seniors) is very helpful in identifying the structures and art displays.
Plan to spend a leisurely 90 minutes and enjoy the surrounding country roads and farms.‬

‪Quiet Peaceful stroll Open 4 days Wed-Sat Noon-4pm‬
זוגות • אוג׳ 2017
‪Reasonably priced, stroll through "Japanese gardens". Only open We'd-Sat Noon until 4pm Make sure to see the "sit or not sit" . sculptures. We were lucky to see the lily pond blooming. Otherwise mostly green area and trees. There was a small interesting art exhibit in the building. Wonderful gift shop with many Asian items for sale. Leisurely spent maybe 1 1/2 hours can spend less time if desired. Might be hard to keep kids attention. Paths are uneven on grass, stones and tree roots. Not really for strollers and walkers. Open April thru Nov‬
