Nice church in Soria. Very beautiful door

Iglesia de Santo Domingo is a nice church located in Soria, in Castillo y León Region. It is located near the old town and it is possible to visit it. It was built in 12th Century in Romanesque-style. It has an impressive door, but the church is normal.

In Memory of the Apostle Thomas

I liked this lovely church, which is way bigger than anticipated. It’s different from other churches, as the bell tower is not above the church, but at the very end of the church.
The entrance is majestic. Two wooden doors. On top are chiseled statues, representing Bible events. The one just above the door shows God with a Child on his lap.
The altar was behind a metal grid. A huge display of paintings had artfully been put together behind the altar. It was gorgeous! It’s truly a Romanesque church!
According to the information that was displayed at the front of the church, no one knows when the original church was built. It was built in honor of the apostle Thomas. Towards the end of the 12th century the church was rebuild quite larger than the original. The original church had fallen partially in ruins.
Somehow I especially liked the entrance door. I was quite attracted to it. Truly beautiful! It was worthwhile a visit!

This church just breathes history and is quite magnificent. It´s very central and easy to locate. It's quite small inside but very special. One of the most impressive church exteriors in Spain I would say,

charming, ancient church

This church was close to our hotel so was the first thing we visited. It is an ancient church in the middle of the city. I think outside is nicer than inside

A lesson in the Norman style...

This is one of the finest examples of the Norman style (known as Romanesque on the continent ) . The west front mixes original sculptures and red stone....at any time of the day , under any lighting condition the colour of the stone is astonishing.

A Romanesque jewel.

The lovely, pale pink façade of this Romanesque style church glowed in the late evening sun. Wonderful carvings on the portal,simple interior,carved capitals of the columns, all very satisfying. On a second visit on a Sunday evening, a choir of nuns sang beautiful music.

In the middle of the town

Santo Domingo church is one of the most representative churches in Soria. If you like Spanish Romanesque architecture, its cover is one of the most impressive in Spain. Some guided tours are offered from the Tourist information (placed in the main street) so you will discover a lot about it.
