‪Lovely historical site but suggest you bring your own picnic!‬
משפחה • אוק׳ 2021
‪The priory, house and gardens are interesting and it was worth a visit as we were travelling towards the north east and it’s literally next to the A1. Seeing the reconstructed monks cell really brought things alive.
The definite downside was the cafe./snack bar. There was only one person working and she was working extremely hard but consequently there was a long wait and the only gluten free option on the very limited snack bar menu was the soup. We visited about 1.30 and we got the last portion ( we actually wanted two). There was nothing else available and due to the location of the site it was not possible to source anything else to eat. I believe there has been some investment into the snack bar but I think more thought and consideration into the overall eating experience would have been helpful. It would have been helpful to know what was on the menu via the website in advance so people could bring their own food if necessary.‬

‪What a brilliant place to visit - an absolute gem‬
אוג׳ 2021
‪We visited early on a Sunday morning so it wasn't too busy. Just off a main road with a large car park for which you pay £3 - no problem with that. Free admission to NT and English Heritage members - think it is owned by the NT but run by Eng Heritage.

There is a cafe and toilets just inside the entrance. There are some very nice, colourful and well maintained gardens at the front with some seats and they are probably worth a visit by themselves. Good photo opportunities.

We then moved to the back to the absolutely huge area of ruins - what a Priory it must have been in it's heyday. As has been mentioned in other posts, the reconstructed monk's cell was a real and thought provoking revelation with it's relatively large garden where the monk could work.

The House had some very interesting displays and there is a good shop where Abigail was very helpful and informative. Nice staff all round.

In summary, we thought Mount Grace was a real gem and definitely worth a visit, with the appeal of the gardens at the front and the priory ruins at the back.‬

‪Excellent Place to Visit‬
אוק׳ 2021
‪Visited yesterday and was really interested to see the house, exhibition and gardens. The Monk's "cell" reconstruction was very well done with great attention to detail. The Priory ruins are extensive and impressive.Took my elderly Mother who is unsteady on her feet and very kind staff provided a wheel chair for her use which was greatly appreciated and enabled her to see the gardens and to enjoy coffee and sandwiches at the cafe. It is probably 20 years since I last visited and the whole set up has been greatly developed and improved in the interim.‬

‪Rip off‬
זוגות • ספט׳ 2021
‪Came here today to visit. After purchasing a car park ticket we made our way up to the entrance (not easy for me as I have difficulty walking) only to be met and advised that dogs weren’t allowed around the ruins! Really disappointed and dumbfounded as to why? We’ve been in cathedrals etc where they’re welcomed but apparently not around a ruin. I understand there are areas where maybe you wouldn’t want them but seriously can’t see the logic of this rule. You lost approval £50 of revenue today, we lost our parking fee and left feeling ‘ripped off’ and unhappy. There should at least be a sign on or next to the parking meter advising of this rule. - yes I did see the map board on our way out which is situated away from the meter and which does say - right at the bottom about dogs. I wonder how many others have been duped in this way. Very disappointed in English Heritage ☹️‬

‪Angry about a bad review!!‬
אוג׳ 2021
‪I am horrified about the slanderous accusations which one reviewer wrote!

I visited Mount Grace Priory while visiting a elderly relative in Thirsk with my wife.
The site is breathtaking and the cells are very interesting.

As a disabled person, I was saddened to see a member of staff, in the cafe, struggling entirely alone and dealing with long queues of people by herself with no support at all. Poor person was doing the best she could.

She was calm and reassuring to customers and held herself together despite angry complaints and rude comments which were nasty and uncalled for, in particular, one man who was so rude and belittling he should have been escorted off the premises and banned.

I am a Vegan Coeliac and this staff member explained about the suitablity of the food. She clearly had an understanding of people's dietary needs. She was very informative.

My table was wiped clean and sanitised and the toilet facilities were better then many places I have been to before and I will certainly be returning with my family soon and eating in the cafe.

So, to conclude, if the staff member with the long dark hair is working there and reads this message, I wish to thank her for her kindness, enthusiasm and making the day special for my wife and I. You are a credit to National Heritage.‬

‪What a delightful place‬

‪We thoroughly enjoyed our visit here. The priory is beautiful and the staff helped our enjoyment of it. The cafe was good too.
The "cells" that the Monks inhabited were fascinating - we could have stayed all day.

‪Fantastic day out!‬
זוגות • ספט׳ 2021
‪What a cracking day out. Beautiful house and gardens and a fantastic huge ruined priory.
We actually thought this was better than Whitby abbey and the staff were so lovely and welcoming we even joined English Heritage for the year!!
The cafe serves great food too and its lovely to sit outside and eat. We spent the whole day and loved every minute! The reconstructed monks cell was superb with amazing attention to detail. Great value for money.‬

‪Fantastic Place‬
ספט׳ 2021
‪Wow, what a great place to visit. The café is lovely. Staff very helpful, priory and house wonderful and definitely worth a visit. Very interesting place and the house is really nice. Well worth a visit and would be happy to go back. Quite happy to pay £3 for parking as at least you know that your car is safe in the car park.‬

‪Worth a visit‬
ספט׳ 2021
‪At first it was a little bit confusing of was it National Trust or English Heritage but its sort of both! Yes you paid the £3 for parking but it was worth it. The staff are so friendly and knowledgable about the life the monks had. We thought it would be a bunch of stones but we were wrong and able to see the cells that they lived in and the life they had. Also the gardens were lovely! A good couple of hours spent.‬

‪Sunday morning stroll‬
אוג׳ 2021
‪Just off the A19 with plenty of parking. Enjoyed a look around the House, love William Morris details.
Interesting ruins and descriptions helped to visualise how it would have looked. Restored monastic cell was good to see.I
Worth a little trip out.
