If you have time when passing it seems worth a look. Provided as a defence it is a very low walled castle so not so picturesque without tall walls and massive corner turrets. Interesting in passing

We stopped here departing our Lefkada visit having seen the long encircling walls from a distance. They enclosed a small medieval city that’s well documented in historical accounts, then in modern times, left for ruins.
I wanted to see the adjacent lighthouse which dominates the northwest point. Sailboats pass by when the Swing Bridge opens.

Not really a castle, this is a fortress, used by the Venetians, the Ottomans, the Venetians again, the French, the Russians, the French again, the British and finally the Greeks. It has a long and complex history, with additions built by almost all occupiers. For several years it was the guardian of the border at Lefkas between the British Ionian Islands and the lands of Ali Pasha.
It is set at the junction of several sandy bars enclosing shallow lagoons, so did not need high ramparts. Instead it is long and low, like a warship, with massively thick walls between the gun emplacements.
It is reasonably well maintained and work to consolidate is continuing on the site. A place well-worth visiting, but with little shade in the summer heat.

An amazing place. Walls largely intact, but most of the buildings inside are in ruins. One notable exception is a small church which is worth a visit.
We saw several workmen about; but no sign of work!

this archaelogical site has the potential to be a monumental stepping point whilst entering the island of lefkas, however, it is totally neglected.. 5 stars goes to the potential and not the current status.

Plenty to explore and some good views from the higher walls of the castle, not suitable for smaller children as there is no fencing or safety provision on the walls.
Very good value at 2 euros entry and worth buying the guide book at 3 Euros.
They are gradually restoring the castle and clearly have intentions of making it a larger attraction, east free parking beside the castle.

Where I'm from there aren't any castles around so when I came to Lefkada and saw the castle I just had to visit it. On the outside it looked quite big but once I entered it seemed much bigger. The ramparts are in good shape and being able to walk along sections is pretty cool. It was 29 degrees on the day I went so I couldn't even guess at how hot and uncomfortable it would have been for venetian guards wearing breastplate armour patrolling these walls. A lot of the interior walls are fallen but still plenty to be able to see what was what. On the ramparts you also get good views in all directions. There's also a quaint Orthodox church within the grounds (the place would have been full during times of attack I'd presume). The castle is open between 8am - 3pm except for Tuesday's when it's closed due to works being currently done. For only a 2 euro entry fee you can't go wrong (children are discounted).

No tourist signs been left to rot. No customer service just pay entry. Also there is no shop or toilets near by so go prepared.

There is SO MUCH history here but unfortunately no onsite information, no pamphlet, no sign posting- nothing. I actually wonder why you pay a 2 Euro entrance fee. If it was not for our visit to the archaeological museum on the other side of Lefkas before coming to the castle it would have a mere visit to ruins. It is a huge pity that local authorities does not do anything to share the rich history behind the castle dating back centuries.
Go to the museum first, read the history behind Leukas and Lefkas and only then come to the castle

Actually this week I am reading on the local paper about the castle, what I like to see , turned it to tourist attraction with tour guides maps
visitors center , restaurant and souvenir shops. Have major advertisement campaign internet social media etc. Every tourist coming to Lefkada will stop there , because its right there on the main road , does not have to go out of his way to visit the castle.
