‪Fantastic museum‬
אוג׳ 2019
‪If you are interested in renaissance history, this fantastic museum is a must to visit. It is reasonably easy to get to, once you've figured out the trains. Lots of interesting exhibits, conveniently displayed. Everything from armour to china to textiles. The museum shuts over the lunch period and I think my feet enjoyed the forced rest. The café/restaurant remains open and provides excellent value lunch - something like 16 euro for three course lunch (which was delicious). It is so great to see a museum that doesn't act like a tourist trap and take advantage of the captive audience.
I spent a whole day here and, so far, it has been a highlight of my trip. ‬

‪A surprisingly wonderful museum made special from the festival du connetable occurring and a marvelous musical program conducted at the museum. 1 singer/actress and 4 musicians who recreated scenes from Henri and Catherine to Greek mythology with Venus bathing with nymphs. Wonderful acoustics and beautiful music. A real highlight. ‬

‪Very old building but in amazingly good shape considering its age, the base building is dated 12th century. It is that old that they done even know who the architect was. The layout was copied form Château of Chambord but it is a much simpler structure. Still impressing with the use colossal order of classical columns and the tall roof with dormer windows, typical French Renaissance architecture. Again, not matching the great Chambord but still worth a visit, architecture wise. Art wise is a little better that Chambord and many others. It is the host of the Renaissance Museum and it is packed with fine art.
It does not fancy or big gardens, there are not even “gardens” they are mostly green landscaped areas. It has a big domain though and there are a lot of trails for hiking.
It is very close to Paris and even closer to Charles De Gaulle airport. Free parking 10 minutes walking from the castle.‬

‪Lovely museum and wonderful visit. Only issue was closed sections that we were not allowed to visit. This needs to be posted to either schedule a time they’re open, or elect to choose another date.‬

‪Beautiful chateau!‬

‪Beautiful location and chateau. However, it was difficult to follow what was in each room. Some of the info was in English, but must was not. Consistency would have helped. And be aware the museum closes in the middle of the day. There is a restaurant, but it was closed when we visited.‬

‪One hour north of Paris on RER D or Translien H, the National Museum of the Renaissance is a delightful excursion. The museum is housed in the castle of Anne of Montmorency one of the great figures of the 16th century. Three great benefits in going out to Ecouen: one is the castle itself, the next is the forest setting, and lastly you will have the place almost to yourself.
An added benefit is that on the first Sunday of every month the museum is free. While some may find the rooms sparse as some of the finest objects were moved to the Louvre and to Chantilly, there is enough sculpture, tapestries and artifacts to delight.‬

‪Beautiful and quick train ride from Paris. And some tips.‬
זוגות • יולי 2018
‪We couldn't believe how close this was to Paris. We took a train from Gare d' Nord. It was about 30 minutes on the SNCF to Ecuen-Ezanville (about 15 minutes back via an express train). Some tips. 1. The SNCF at gare nord is upstairs. You have to go into it then to get to INFO. DO NOT WAIT IN THE RER RATP office line downstairs for info. They'll just send you upstairs. 2. If you plan to spend the day maybe bring your lunch. You will get off and there may not be much open. We bought a Gyro sandwich with frites. If you go in late July and August this is especially true. 3. I highly recommend AN HOUR FROM PARIS by Annabel Simms. She gives fully detailed descriptions and directions for 20 trips. This was one of them.
You get off and after a short walk through town you enter a breathtaking forest filled with old growth trees. The view of the Chateau when you approach it this way is great. We had our lunch in the shade on one of many benches around the Chateau before going in. You approach it from the back. Expect to spend several hours inside. It's a museum with many lovely exhibits and even a treasure room with a vaulted door. There is also a cafe inside where we had a beer out on the terrace (you pay half a euro more) for a lovely view.
Don't expect Versailles here. The gardens aren't immaculate and the rooms are given over to artifacts , art and tapestries. All of which are stunning. We mostly had the place to ourselves. A few other people and some charming groups of schoolchildren. A great day.‬

‪Beautiful but Boring‬
יולי 2017
‪We had hired a driver to take us to Chantilly and decided to see Chateau d'Ecouen as it was on the way back to Paris - plus it was advertised at Charles de Gaulle airport.

On entering the property there is an enormous shed/workshop to the left of the gates which is a complete eyesore!! The chateau exterior is huge and has been fully restored.

The interior holds a museum which had beautiful items that were not exactly exhibited to their best. Individual pieces are spread out around each room and you don't get a cohesive feel. Information sheets are meant to be in each room but almost all were only in French so you usually left each room not knowing anything.

The gardens are sadly not much to look at. While the chateau itself is in first class condition the gardens are rather unloved. Grass is growing in the gravel and the lawns plus hedges could do with a trim and water. The chateau is certainly let down by this!!

This chateau and museum didn't rate highly in my opinion and there are far more beautiful places to visit that aren't so hard to find.

‪Really enjoyed our visit to the massive Chateau d'Ecouen. The excellent museum covers 2 floors and can take some time. Very informative. Great rooms covering several centuries. Don't miss the Galleon Automaton.
Lovely setting and gardens.‬

‪superb castle and garden, easy access from Gare du Nord (hoping there are no strikes). very nice collection (arms, clothes, jewerly) it takes 2h30 to make the visit very well explained. Only drawback is the small font of the explanation in blue in the artefact showcase.‬
