‪Our choice for walks‬
זוגות • יוני 2019
‪Almost every day we went to the river for a variety of walks, some of which we repeated. Our interest beyond walking was birds and butterflies and we enjoyed these.‬

‪Gorgeous walk from Jimena‬

‪We walked from the village down to the river. Quite a steep climb, but so beautiful. There were people swimming in the river. ‬

‪No water in the river‬
יולי 2017
‪No water in the river. It was very difficult to find and not worth going at all. The trip by car up the mountains is much better.‬

‪Lovely walks ‬

‪From the bridge at Jimena you can walk along past the old bomb factory ruins (18th century) and either go up into old Jimena or continue round to the camp site, taking in the cave paintings. Make sure you do this early in the summer as it's quite a trek and can soon get very, very hot. Definitely worth it though. ‬

‪HOZGARGANTA RIVER IN THE ALCORNOCALES NATIONAL PARK‬
חברים • אפר׳ 2017
‪My friend and I just went on a three and a half hour hike which involved a fairly steep incline on an old section of a Roman road, then an easy part on a gravel road in a pine forest before heading down a steeper path to cross and then walk along the river for some distance. We saw a rather large fish and a turtle and several fairly deep swimming holes just upstream from Jimena. We then crossed the river again and headed back up to where we had parked at the Jimena de la Frontera Camp Ground. A staff member there had been very helpful in giving us a trail map and pointing us in the right direction. There is also a cafeteria there should one be ready for something to eat and drink. Have a good trip!‬

‪The Hozgarganta is reachable from both sides of Jimena, the access from the campsite is the easiest which leads one to a beautiful area, suitable for sit and picnic or choose to go off on a walk along the marked tracks. In particular the Sendora which passes under the castle past the old munitions works and into the town from below the main square, just in time for a coffee, beer, wine or even a Tapas.‬

‪Great scenery‬

‪Had a lovely time walking up el sendero Miradores de Risco and then down to Hozgaganta river, we then followed the river along its shore line back to the town of Jimena. It took us most of the day but I would recommend this route as the sights are amazing.‬

‪Super fresh-water swim‬

‪Try to take the walk down from the town past El Risco and turn right at the bottom, over some superb paths worn into the rocks, leading to a little "beach" area where you can swim around the rocks even in the height of summer - and the water temp is just fine. Drift wood in the riverside bushes suggests the river flows pretty deep and strong at other times of the year! ‬

‪Steep walk both up and down‬
זוגות • אפר׳ 2016
‪We were a bit optimistic entering this walk down to the river and then up again, it was a hot day and perhaps not so suitable for a retired couple, not trained and prepared for this walk. The nature interesting, but the river was smaller than expected. Maybe because of the dry season.‬

‪Spring flowers along the river.‬
זוגות • אפר׳ 2016
‪With three hours to spare this was a lovely river walk. We were advised by our hotel to try this short stretch of the GR7 ( the famous walking trail in Southern Spain) At four and a half kilometres it was not too demanding for an older set of legs and the walker followed this pretty mountain river through it's valley surrounded by spring flowers and bird song. There is a steep climb at the end up to the town where welcome cold beers await you‬
