Nice monastery, included in many daytours going to Sevan and Diljian. The relevance is the statue of the man who has written constitutions. Beautiful khachkars are present on this site.

One of the beautiful Armenian monasteries, set in a natural landscape. There are also some small shops around in case you are planning on buying traditional.

On the left bank of "River Getik", at approximately 15 km of Dilijan and surrounded by mountains and forests, you will find the impressive "Goshavank Monastery". It was built, in the 12th century, over the ruins of the ancient Nor Getik Monastery, by Mkhitar Gosh, the most famous scholar, scientist, statesman and writer of his time. "Goshavank Monastery" had its golden years between the 12th and 13th centuries, when it was the most important spiritual and cultural center of Armenia. At its Academy, classes of Armenian, Latin, Greek, grammar, philosophy, music, drawing and manuscript writing were taught! A center of enlightenment, science and culture in medieval Armenia! Differently of other Armenian monasteries, at "Goshavank Monastery" you won't find outer walls and the religious buildings are neighbored by village homes. Visit the complex, starting by the "Monument to Mkhitar Gosh" (its founder), the "Cathedral of the Holy Mother of God", the "Church of St. Gregory the Illuminator", the "Church of St. Gregory", the chapels dedicated to "St. Hripsime" and to the "Holy Apostles", and the bell tower. Typical Armenia's "Khachkars" - the carved cross-stones - are displayed all over "Goshavank Monastery". And there, you will find one of the most famous "Khachkars" of all Armenia - the iconic "Aseghnagorts", dating from 1291. "Aseghnagorts" means something like "needle carving", "stone embroidery" or "lace carving". The whole complex is very interesting and scenic. If you are around Dilijan, please do not miss it. Otherwise, you may regret forever! Enjoy!

Nice scenic drive to monastery. The monastery is in good condition and a very easy walk from where cars are parked. Nice place to visit.

This site is accessed via a scenic valley and then a steep winding climb.
The. Monastery is very old but in good condition. Inside is plain in the tradition of the Armenian Church. Candles are on sale.
Outside is a number of stalls, all selling the same things.

Another ancient monastery -- this one is in the Dilijan region, which is much greener than many areas around Yerevan. It's also within a day-trip's range of Yerevan. It's in a lovely setting, making for good photos.

The site has been refurbished for a while and it is not finished yet but what has been done makes the visit completely worth it. The drive there is beautiful so all in all a great visit, but the complex is also stunning with a lot of history.
