‪Circe's spring‬
ספט׳ 2019 • זוגות
‪If you make the effort to climb to the top of the bell tower, you can see both sides of the island, but it is under the Church where the real treasure lies. Hidden away at the back of the site you can find the entrance to Circe's spring, where, if you let your imagination run wild, you can picture Odysseus and his crew being bewitched by the sorceress.‬

‪Great view from the tower.‬
ספט׳ 2018 • זוגות
‪We had a lovely walk from Lakka using the Bleasdale map, it is a fine, hilly walk through the olive groves, we spotted lots of lizards sunning themselves on the low stone walls. The church itself was closed on the day we visited but the tower was open, from there you get a great view out through the trees down to the sea. The churchyard is an ideal spot for a few minutes of quiet contemplation before setting off again.‬

‪You will see signs in Lakka saying the church is open on Wed from 6pm till 7pm.eg outside the Planos office in Lakka.
What they dont tell you is that the church is run by volunteers and that you must 'sign up' for your interest. Failing to do so may mean that no one turns up to openthe church.
Built circa 1600 its worth the visit. Whether or not the church is open the view fromthe bell tower is memorable. But DO NOT be tempted to ring the bells!!!
The steps by the bell tower are a good start for a walk to the west coast passing thru some old deserted villages

3 star for the bell tower, but 5 star if church is open‬

‪Part of a wonderful walk‬
יוני 2017 • חברים
‪We had set out from Magazia to walk to the coast along lanes and paths. Heading north west we stopped for a drink at Spiro's Sunset Bar before reaching a viewpoint over looking a wonderful high sided inlet. From here we took a track back inland and after descending down through some olive trees found ourselves at this church.

Sadly the church itself was locked but the bell tower beside it was open and we climbed to the top for far reaching views down to Lakka.

Leaving the tower we followed a set of steps to the left of the church to another church (also closed) where we picnicked on cheese, sausage and bread.. Refreshed we returned by narrow lanes to Magazia.‬

‪Found it by accident while walking from Lakka‬

‪Taking a walk from the village of Lakka I saw the signpost and decided to take a look. It is set in the most fantastic scenery with great views. The bell tower alone is worth the short climb. The church itself was not open, but well worth taking a wander around the area‬

‪Your Wednesday evening walk‬
ספט׳ 2016 • זוגות
‪Top tip: a local British lady has, after a couple of years of gentle persuasion, been allowed to open this church to visitors for just one hour a week on Wednesdays, from 6-7pm. This only started this year, and I'm not sure if it happens off-season. You can drive to the village, but there is a beautiful walk which could be combined with the visit, Get yourself to the junction of the main north-south road on the island, and the main turn-off for Loggos. Opposite the Loggos road there is a little road going steeply up the hill, signposted "Holland House". Go up this (we drove), and when you reach the house you will see an old stone pathway between walls, to the right of the parking area (this takes several cars).

Follow this, and it will take you down into a beautiful, silent valley of old olive trees, then up the other side. Turn right at the T-junction of paths, past a handsome ruined house, and the second road to your left is signposted Ypapanti. Having done the walk somehow put us in the right frame of mind to visit this secluded and holy place. (We also had Alan Bleasdale's Paxos map, which shows paths and tracks, and which we would recommend as you could walk further in this area).

The church was built in 1601, so it is Byzantine in style rather than period, and has (I think) 18th century wall-paintings, and also many icons. It has recently been restored with a combination of diocesan, local and EU funding. You can also climb the belltower to see the 4 bells, and views across the valley and down to Lakka. The lady who opens it is very knowledgeable about local traditions and religious festivals, and clearly loves the place.

I suggested to her that she might start a visitor's book, as this evidence of interest always helps churches when they apply for further funding, so if there is one when you go, please do sign it!

‪An idyllic setting‬

‪This church, which is the oldest of Paxos' churches is situated at the crossroads of Four of the arguably most beautiful walks described in Mr Bleasdale's Book of Walks. It is a notable landmark with charming views across the olive tree covered hills.‬

‪Fascinating church ina remote area of Paxos‬
מאי 2015 • זוגות
‪Ypapanti church is the only Byzantine Church on Paxos. The church itself is rarely open to the public but the graveyard of tombs to the Grammatikos family is usually open as is the campanile. You can climb to the top, from which there is a wonderful view of the church, the surrounding countryside and down to the coast at Lakka.

Ypapanti is best approached from the Old Lakka Road via the turn off in Magazia (signposted Sunset Bar). Stay on this road (rather than take the left turn to the Sunset Bar at 1 km). After another 1km the village Ypapanti is visible down to the left.‬
