I seldom give 'perfect' reviews, but this inn deserves it. My spouse and I spend a vacation week here to enjoy Xishuangbanna and the surrounding area. Our room was clean and serviced daily with fresh towels, etc. and the hosts running the inn were very cordial and helpful when we wanted to explore the local sights. It's good if your partner speaks Mandarin though, as most locals are not fluent English speakers. There is also a garden area with shaded tables and a pond with fish and turtles where you can just hang out and enjoy the view. The included breakfast was fantastic, with a large selection of different Chinese food and fruit items that were very tasty. The inn is small (23 rooms), so no giant crowds of tour groups to contend with! As well, there is a tea room where you can sit and brew yourself a pot of 'real' tea using tea leaves harvested from a local tea plantation. (I say 'real' tea, as the tea tastes totally different from the garbage we drink here in the west.) The inn is a five minute stroll along the lower streets next to the river to get to the local night market and the enormous Buddhist temple complex. There are excellent restaurants in the neighborhood but we spend nearly every evening at the night market to sample the food and look for clothing bargains. It seems to be where all the locals go to eat and enjoy the evening. Our hosts at the inn were able to provide a driver to take us to the various sights in the surrounding areas outside the city, such as the botanical gardens, the peacock show (a bit silly but still impressive watching 100s of peacocks flying in to land at feeding time). Our best trip was to a mountain tea tree plantation where we picked tea leaves for an hour and then sat down to sample various teas from the farm and have a lovely lunch with the owner and wife - some of the best Chinese food I've eaten in my life. (They don't sell tea at the farm, but the inn hosts will direct you to the local tea store nearby in the city where their tea can be tasted and then purchased.) It was very helpful having a driver from the inn for the day who could get us tickets (at reduced prices) for various trips and quickly get us back and forth from the locations, some of which were way outside the city. In short, we were treated to a fantastic vacation in a lovely setting with all the amenities we would want for a very reasonable price. Before booking this inn, we checked the many other reviews on various travel sites who have all praised this particular inn with high ratings. We highly recommend this inn for anyone looking to have a great time somewhere a little off the beaten track.…
The hotel has a perfect pickup service (from the airport). The people are very friendly and helpfull to take you around against reasonnable price. For non-chinese, the only issue is the language, they do not speak English in the hotel. My company was a Chinese lady, I was happy she booked the hotels and tours in Yunnan for me.
While english was a problem the staff tried hard to assist us coming up with an app to help with our inquiries. The staff were very friendly, the hotel clean and the location good over looking the Mekong.
If one has a smattering of Mandarin this would be a fantastic pl;ace to stay. Good rooms, spotlessly clean and with a good garden. The owners and staff are really helpful and go out of their way to help guests have a pleasant stay. The only problem is making oneself understood. Whenever you manage to communicate what you want these people respond and do their best to give it to you. Once they know what you want they shift all obstacles to help you get it, even giving you a free lift into town or detailing a member of staff to make sure you get on the right public bus to get to your destination and telling you the time of the last reliable bus back. We enjoyed our stay. But beware there are no western options at breakfast, just a good and varied spread of congee, noodles, and their pickles plus very tasty yunnan bits and bobs. There are lots of places to eat nearby but the best bits are in the nightmarket about 2 min walk away…
(Jan, 2015) Wait a couple of months. This is a great (for the price) small hotel. But, it's still under construction. The back patio will be a pretty little Chinese garden/patio - but it's in work. The adjacent rooms are still being built, so pounding, sawing, laboring during the day. The staff is great (no English, which is fine with this Westerner). The driver is superb. Breakfast is a small family affair in the adjacent building. This part of Jinghong is really beautiful. It's upscale, with nice shops, a ton of small hotels, Temple, Chinese family-style restaurants...... But, it's a work in progress.
