Reporting Incentives to Tripadvisor
At Tripadvisor, our community is based on trust, which comes from collecting the most reliable, relevant and helpful travel guidance from people just like you! Advice from fellow travelers has the power to inspire exploration, unearth hidden gems and help you plan the best trip possible. This works because our community knows they can trust the reviews they read on Tripadvisor.
Maintaining that trust means keeping the content on our site honest; we take significant steps to ensure that the reviews you read are from genuine, unbiased travelers. One thing we’re always on the lookout for is what we call “incentivized reviews” - reviews that are submitted because someone at the reviewed business offered something to the user, on the condition they submit a review on Tripadvisor.
We get it - a free dessert, or a room upgrade, or a 15% discount, and all you need to do is submit a review? It sounds like a great deal, right? The problem is incentive programs like these make it harder to understand which businesses are genuinely worthy of excellent reviews and which have simply bribed their customers.
This is where you come in! Have you ever been offered a gift or discount in exchange for a positive Tripadvisor review? If so, please let us know by emailing us at incentives@tripadvisor.com. Your report will be handled confidentiality and will help us ensure that properties are complying with our guidelines. They say “it takes a village,” so here’s your chance to help ensure that travelers like you can continue to rely on Tripadvisor for helpful and unbiased travel guidance!
Why is this so important?
Flagging these programs will help us ensure a level playing field for the business listed on our platform and improve the quality of the guidance we offer.
